The Social Media Director is responsible for leading the social media vision and execution across Okayplayer’s platforms, with a strong emphasis on video-first storytelling, live cultural coverage, and monetization. This leader will oversee a team of coordinators, strategists, creators, and performers, ensuring strategy, logistics, and production workflows are executed at the highest level.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a cross-functional social team (coordinators, strategists, creators, and performers) to deliver best-in-class social storytelling.
  • Develop and execute the social media brand strategy with a video-first focus, driving follower growth, reach, and engagement across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter & YouTube.
  • Manage real-time social coverage at live events, overseeing on-site teams, content capture, rapid publishing, and performance tracking to maximize engagement.
  • Oversee social video production workflows — including editing, formatting, and optimizing for each platform — while training and supporting team members to execute at scale.
  • Collaborate with sales to translate campaign briefs into impactful branded and paid social activations.
  • Establish and track qualitative and quantitative content performance goals, leveraging analytics to drive strategy.
  • Identify and optimize monetization opportunities across all platforms (e.g., YouTube Partner Program, Meta In-Stream Ads, branded content, affiliate links, and social commerce).
  • Manage the annual content calendar, weaving in tentpole cultural moments, live coverage, and recurring campaigns to ensure brand consistency.
  • Enforce copyright, licensing, and fair use compliance in all content.
  • Conduct regular best-practice training, audits, and team feedback sessions to foster excellence and innovation.
  • Stay ahead of emerging trends, tools, and platform changes to keep Okayplayer at the forefront of digital culture.

The Social Media Director should be a dynamic, culturally fluent leader with a proven ability to manage both people and content systems. They should bring a video-first mindset, operational excellence, and a passion for music and culture.

Qualifications include:

  • 5+ years of experience in social media marketing, with at least 3 years managing a team of coordinators, strategists, creators, and performers.
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading video-first campaigns, including social video production and editing proficiency (short-form and long-form).
  • Hands-on experience creating and executing logistics and rollout strategies for live event coverage, cultural moments, and experiential activations.
  • Expertise in paid social campaign management on Meta, YouTube, TikTok, and other major platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of analytics tools (e.g., Parse.ly, Google Analytics, Sprout Social, etc.) with the ability to derive actionable insights.
  • Proven ability to drive revenue through platform-native monetization tools and branded content integrations.
  • Deep understanding of Black culture, music, art, and social trends, with the ability to authentically connect these to brand voice and audience growth.
  • Exceptional copywriting, creative thinking, and project management skills, with a results-driven, “roll-up-your-sleeves” mentality.
