The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra is seeking a creative, collaborative, and audience-focused Social Media Assistant to help bring SPCO’s music, musicians, and mission to life across social media. This role supports the creation, scheduling, and monitoring of organic and paid social content, including opportunities to capture authentic moments at rehearsals, concerts, and events. The ideal candidate is curious, organized, eager to learn, and interested in visual storytelling, audience engagement, and the performing arts. This is a part-time, hourly position with a variable schedule that will average 25 hours per week. This is a hybrid position with a high degree of flexibility for remote work, with in-person work required as needed for rehearsals, concerts, events, and other organizational activities. 

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Social Media Assistant supports SPCO’s social media presence by helping create, edit, schedule, and monitor content that shares the organization’s artistic story, highlights its musicians and performances, and strengthens audience engagement. Working closely with marketing leadership and colleagues across the organization, this role assists with organic and paid social media content, captures photo and video content at selected rehearsals, concerts, and events, and helps ensure SPCO’s social media activity is timely, accurate, engaging, and aligned with organizational priorities.  This position reports to the Chief Marketing Officer.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the development and execution of social media content plans that advance organizational goals, audience growth and engagement

• Create and edit approved social media content in support of marketing campaigns and organizational initiatives 

• Capture photo and video content at selected rehearsals, concerts, events, and other organizational activities

• Participate in general operations of the marketing department, including proofreading of marketing materials, both print and digital 

• Stay up to date on social media trends and digital best practices to inform strategy 

• Coordinate with Artistic and Marketing to tell a cohesive story about the organization across digital platforms 

• Assist with creation of paid social content under the direction of the Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Marketing and Communications 

• Prepare and route paid social ad copy and creative assets for approval

• Reporting basic paid social ad performance metrics and recommendations for growing engagement

• Other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: 

Required Qualifications and Skills 

• Demonstrated ability to create engaging social media content for an organization, business, nonprofit, creative project, or similar purpose

• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to adapt tone and content for different audiences and platforms

• Good visual judgment and ability to support compelling photo, video, and other digital storytelling

• Familiarity with major social media platforms, trends, and best practices

• Basic understanding of social media metrics and ability to summarize performance observations

• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with artists, staff, vendors and external partners 

• Strong professional communication skills including appropriate use of email and other communication tools

• Comfort learning and using digital tools, social media platforms, and standard office software

• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment

• Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends for rehearsals, concerts, and events


Desired Qualifications 

• Experience creating short-form video or other social-first digital content

• Familiarity with basic photo and video editing tools, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, or comparable programs

• Enthusiasm for and appreciation of the classical music art form and digital media
