The Role
Manage daily landscaping and environmental restoration site operations in Aylesbury, leading teams delivering tree planting, seeding, vegetation maintenance, wetlands and pond features. Plan work, supervise employees and subcontractors, operate plant when required, manage materials and deliveries, conduct inductions and toolbox talks, maintain health and safety standards, complete site records, and coordinate resourcing with project management.
Summary Generated by Built In

The role sits on one of our major works contracts in Aylesbury, running the site team day to day across landscaping management, tree planting and maintenance. It is a hands-on job. You will be planning the day, setting the standard, then working alongside the team to hit it.

The role

You will lead and help deliver works on site, including landscaping management, tree planting, seeding and maintenance. You will liaise with the Senior Site Manager and Project Manager to own the day-to-day management of the site team: making sure the work stays on plan, everyone on the ground stays safe, the plant is kept in good order, and the finished work is up to standard.

You will be on the tools as well as running the job with support from other site managers, supervisors and landscapers. With a CPCS A33 agricultural tractor or excavator ticket, there may be times when you could be operating the tractor and towed attachments yourself rather than waiting on a subcontractor for every task.

The work on the ground

  • Site maintenance including vegetation clearance, strimming, mowing, grass cutting and herbicide application, in line with project requirements and environmental standards.
  • Project-specific works including ground preparation, tree planting, wildflower meadow and grassland seeding, and creating features such as ponds and wetlands.
  • Tractor and towed attachment operation under your CPCS A33 or excavator, alongside the wider site works.
  • Plant, tools, materials and labour: what is on site, what condition it is in and where it is best used.
  • Deliveries received and signed off, checked for accuracy and quality.

The team

  • A daily work plan clearly delivered to the team
  • Site inductions for new staff and visitors, and regular toolbox talks.
  • Direction and supervision of subcontractors, including excavator and tractor drivers.
  • One-to-ones with your direct reports, absence reporting.

Client, compliance and standards

  • Health and safety on site, and following company procedures. There is no flexibility on this.
  • Accurate project records: daily diaries, reports and site paperwork.
  • A good working partnership with our Project Manager so the project is delivered to the agreed contract and to company policy.
  • Input to resource meetings, giving a site-level view on resourcing.

What you'll bring

Essential

  • Experience working across landscaping, environmental or ecological projects.
  • Experience managing site teams.
  • CPCS A33 Agricultural Tractor or excavator, current and in date.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS (minimum 3 years' experience) and a current CSCS card.
  • First Aid at Work.
  • Full UK driving licence and use of your own vehicle.
  • A hands-on approach, strong attention to detail, and the commitment to see a job through.

Desirable

  • Tickets covering strimming, ride-on mower, brushcutter, PA1 & PA6 and chainsaw.
  • Experience of building inclusive site teams that people want to stay in.

What's on offer

£38,000 to £42,500, depending on experience and tickets held.

  • 3% company pension contribution.
  • Enhanced benefits for major life events.
  • Continuing professional development, and clear routes towards senior site and management roles.
  • Occupational health platform and Employee Assistance Programme.
