About DeepWalk
DeepWalk is a fast-growing venture that helps cities keep people safe using computer vision to map and monitor their sidewalks. We have ongoing contracts with cities, universities, and engineering firms.
In the past year, we’ve processed thousands of miles of sidewalk across 20+ states, generating millions of labeled data points used in real-world infrastructure decisions.
Who You Are
We are seeking active, tech-savvy individuals to join our field team for a seasonal infrastructure project across the Chicago metropolitan area. As a sidewalk data collector, you will be instrumental in mapping the city's walkability and contributing to local engineering and accessibility projects. This is a high-activity role perfect for those who enjoy working independently outdoors.
Key Responsibilities
This position involves approximately 90% fieldwork and 10% office work.
Field Data Collection: Traverse assigned routes on foot to capture high-resolution imagery and spatial data of sidewalks, curb ramps, and pedestrian paths using DeepWalk equipment.
Asset Inspection: Scan and manually log sidewalk infrastructure issues such as trip hazards using DeepWalk's proprietary technology.
Technical Operation: Use DeepWalk-provided iPhones to scan locations. May involve other portable scanning equipment.
Safety & Logistics:
Maintain high visibility by wearing a provided Class II safety vest while working near active roadways.
Attend formal check-ins.
Reporting:
Provide updates on the schedule for when work will be completed and ensure all required locations are captured with high accuracy, and
Ensure all data is accurate and uploaded daily.
Flexibility: Other responsibilities related to scanning as deemed necessary.
Compensation & Perks
Competitive Pay: $22.00–$28.00 per hour.
Incentives: Profit-based project bonus.
Equipment Stipend: Stipend for work-related gear (shoes, protection).
Travel Reimbursement: Mileage/fuel reimbursed at the IRS limit.
Gear Provided: DeepWalk provides a scanning device (iPhone), a Class II safety vest, charging equipment, and a carrying case for the equipment.
Environmental & Physical Requirements
Physical Stamina: Ability to walk 8–10 miles per day. Can include rough or uneven terrain.
Environment:
Work is performed mainly outdoors with frequent exposure to various environmental conditions.
Requires perception and discrimination in the areas of visual, color, sound, and depth.
Attention to Detail: An "eagle eye" for spotting a 1/2-inch vertical displacement is essential.
Travel: Must utilize your vehicle to reach various job sites, including occasional visits to the DeepWalk Downtown Chicago office.
Other Requirements & Compliance
Prerequisites: Must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma/GED.
Licensing: Valid driver's license with a good record.
Technical Literacy: Comfortable using iOS/iPhones, GPS hardware, and basic cloud-based mapping apps.
Reliability: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting daily mileage targets.
Communication: Professionalism when interacting with curious residents or local officials in the field.
Bonus Points For:
Engineering Students: Gain hands-on field experience in civil infrastructure.
Photography/GIS Knowledge: Experience with framing, lighting, or geographic information systems.
Field Experience: Previous work in surveying, construction inspection, and other forms of data collection

What We Do
DeepWalk has built an AI-driven platform that measures 3D models of infrastructure and creates useful deliverables for engineering, planning, and maintenance teams. Over 100 cities across America rely on DeepWalk’s software for measuring, planning, and updating infrastructure, starting with sidewalks. Creating 3D models of buildings and infrastructure has become affordable and widespread. However, extracting useful information from models is extremely challenging. DeepWalk’s platform consumes 3D models, measures them, and outputs the deliverables required to maintain large assets. DeepWalk’s first product generates and measures 3D models of entire sidewalk networks using iPhones or higher-fidelity LIDAR sensors; it’s 10x faster than the current state-of-the-art. Then it creates work orders, plans, and construction docs 1000x faster and 10x cheaper. All information is stored and displayed in DeepWalk’s subscription web platform and integrations.
