Shanghai Creative Lead

Bureau Betak is looking for a Creative Lead to shape and lead the creative vision of its Shanghai Studio.

As the senior creative and design authority based in Shanghai, you will lead and develop the local creative studio, shaping ambitious concepts and experiences for some of the world’s leading luxury and fashion houses, in close partnership with the Shanghai Managing Director and production team.

Working closely with Bureau Betak’s Global Head of Design and in constant dialogue with our creative leads across Paris, New York and Los Angeles, you will play a key role in connecting the Shanghai Studio to Bureau Betak’s global creative vision and fostering creative exchange across our international studios.

THE ROLE

• Define, lead and elevate the creative direction of the Shanghai Studio.

• Originate and develop ambitious concepts across fashion shows, spatial design, scenography, exhibitions, brand experiences and luxury events.

• Translate creative ideas into compelling narratives, presentations and spatial experiences.

• Lead projects creatively from initial concept through development and execution, maintaining the highest level of creative ambition throughout.

• Present, articulate and defend creative directions directly to senior clients, Creative Directors and brand leadership.

• Lead, mentor and grow a multidisciplinary creative team of approximately 5-10 designers.

• Foster a demanding, collaborative and inspiring studio culture.

• Work closely with the Global Head of Design and fellow senior creative leads to ensure alignment with the agency’s global creative vision and standards.

• Partner with the Shanghai Managing Director to support the creative operations and development of the studio.

• Navigate naturally between international luxury expectations and the cultural landscape of Mainland China and the wider APAC region.
  

THE PROFILE

We are looking for an established creative leader with exceptional taste, conceptual strength and a strong spatial sensibility.

You bring:

• 8+ years of experience in senior art-based, conceptual, spatial or design roles within leading creative agencies, studios or luxury brands.

• A strong portfolio spanning fashion shows, scenography, architecture, spatial design, exhibitions, brand experiences and luxury events.

• A design and/or architectural background with a sophisticated understanding of space, materiality, image and experience.

• Significant experience working within China/APAC and an ability to operate confidently within international and multicultural environments.

• A strong understanding of the cultural and creative landscape of Mainland China.

• Proven experience leading, inspiring and developing multidisciplinary creative teams.

• The ability to move seamlessly between creative vision, client dialogue and the realities of complex, fast-paced productions.

• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage directly with senior creative and brand leadership.

• Fluent English required. Mandarin strongly preferred.
