Senior/Staff Network Development Engineer - Backbone Team
Location: San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Los Angeles or Austin
Salary Range: $154,000 to $259,000

Twitter is looking for a skilled and experienced Sr./Staff Network Development Engineer to join its Backbone Networking team, bringing unique expertise in building and maintaining global networks and a highly connected Edge to develop network products that enable Twitter's world wide reach.
Who You Are:
You will take pleasure building highly scalable, resilient, performant, and thoroughly tested products for Twitter’s global edge and backbone network. You will be a technical lead with the ability to collaborate on network design and develop solutions as a team. You will have strong verbal and written communications, strong ownership and the ability to work in multi-disciplined technical teams.
What You’ll Do:
In this role, you will:

Direct involvement with deploying and operating networks within critical production environments.

Proficiency with multiple vendor operating systems (Arista, Juniper, Cisco)

Network automation experience with Python
-
5+ years of experience with global backbone and edge networks
-
Management and expansion of network interconnections with IP Transit vendors, CDN companies, IXP networks, etc. in our points of presence (PoPs) around the world

Coordinate and deliver peering expansions for quick turnaround of capacity augmentation

Establish and maintain relationship with peers through initial activations, upgrades, expansions, reconfigurations and terminations

Establish peering strategy to provide low latency and high-speed internet access

Peering monitoring and capacity planning for future growth and failure scenarios

Define and execute strategies to localize traffic in our PoPs and optimize costs

Support internet numbering administration public (i.e. addressing with RIRs, autonomous system numbers)
Qualifications:
-
B.S. in network engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
-
Proficient level understanding and hands-on experience with large-scale networking, including platforms, topologies, and routing protocols such as BGP, IS-IS and MPLS-TE++

Track record of practical problem solving, excellent communication, and documentation skills.

Expert knowledge of large backbone networks, peering and transit with advanced traffic engineering.

Understanding of unix/linux shells and scripting languages (python preferred)

Ability to learn new networking protocols, programming/scripting languages, and vendor operating systems as necessary.
