Key Responsibilities
- Write and edit articles, white papers, fact sheets, blogs, press releases, and web content on NSF science and policy topics.
- Translate complex scientific and technical concepts into plain language for non-expert audiences.
- Manage writing assignments, priorities, schedules, and deliverables across multiple concurrent projects.
- Coordinate with OLPA staff, scientists, and program officials to ensure accuracy and timeliness of content.
- Ensure all written products comply with the Plain Writing Act of 2010 and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Education
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; degree in journalism, communications, or a science-related field preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional writing and editing experience, including at least three (3) years writing about scientific or technical subjects.
- Experience supporting federal agencies, scientific funders, or research-focused organizations.
- Strong project coordination and workload management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced federal environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
