About Lumilens

At Lumilens, we are building the essential photonics infrastructure that will drive tomorrow’s AI supercomputing. From chip-to-chip optical interconnects to scalable photonic engines, Lumilens is ushering in a new era of computing that is faster, cooler, and dramatically more efficient. We’re a well-funded startup backed by Mayfield and led by veterans who have built and scaled some of the industry’s most transformative technologies.

About the Role

This is a critical technical role responsible for the operational execution, process control, and continuous improvement of Lumilens’ wafer-level testing operations. You will serve as a key owner of wafer-level test processes, test flow, manufacturing readiness, production performance, yield, and process optimization, working closely with internal engineering teams and external manufacturing partners to ensure robust, scalable, and efficient wafer-level testing. The role requires a highly analytical and hands-on engineer who can translate product and test requirements into reliable production processes and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Wafer-Level Test Process Ownership: Own and continuously improve wafer-level test processes to ensure stable, repeatable, and efficient production execution. Lead the setup, qualification, and day-to-day operation of automated wafer probers, optical alignment systems, and Automated Test Equipment (ATE) for electrical and photonic wafer-level testing.

  • Production Operations: Drive day-to-day wafer-level test operations, monitor production performance, identify process constraints, and ensure execution against production plans and quality requirements.

  • Test Process Development & Qualification: Develop, optimize, and qualify wafer-level test processes, including test flows, test conditions, process parameters, and operating procedures for new and existing products.

  • Process Control: Establish and maintain process specifications, control plans, operating windows, and monitoring methodologies to ensure consistent test performance and minimize process variation.

  • Yield Improvement & Failure Debug: Monitor wafer-level test yield and defect performance, identify systematic and process-related losses, and lead improvement activities to increase yield and manufacturing efficiency. Drive effective corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Test Data Analysis: Analyze wafer-level test data to identify trends, abnormal conditions, process shifts, and systematic failures. Establish appropriate metrics and monitoring mechanisms to track production performance.

  • Process Documentation: Develop and maintain test process specifications, work instructions, control plans, qualification reports, and other manufacturing documentation required for production execution.

  • Cycle Time & Productivity Improvement: Drive improvements in test cycle time, throughput, yield, process efficiency, and overall manufacturing cost without compromising product quality or reliability.

  • Continuous Improvement: Lead structured improvement activities using data-driven methodologies such as DOE, SPC, Six Sigma, and root-cause analysis to improve process capability and manufacturing performance.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product engineering, quality, supply chain, industrial engineering, and program management teams to ensure successful product qualification, production ramp, and ongoing manufacturing execution.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Microelectronics, Physics, Optical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in semiconductor wafer-level testing, wafer sort, test process engineering, manufacturing operations, parametric test process engineering within semiconductor fab, OSAT, high-tech manufacturing environment or silicon photonics environments.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to analyze test data, identify root causes, and drive permanent corrective actions. Proven proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., JMP, Spotfire, Python, R) for yield modeling, statistical process control (SPC), and test time reduction.

  • Strong understanding of wafer-level test processes, test flow development, process control, yield management, and production test methodologies.

  • Strong cross-functional communication and project management skills, with the ability to drive technical issues to closure across internal and external teams.

  • Experience in photonics, silicon photonics, optical devices, or advanced semiconductor packaging is a strong advantage.
