Job Details

This position will play a critical role in our organization's success by leading the design, development, implementation, and integration of vision systems across our manufacturing footprint for the Global Manufacturing Supply Chain organization as part of the Automation Engineering department.  The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, quality assurance, and software engineering, to ensure the effective implementation of vision systems for defect identification and quality control.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Vision System Integration: Lead the integration of vision systems, including Cognex, Keyence, Teledyne, SICK, Fanuc, KUKA, Dalsa, and other vision vendors, into manufacturing processes to enable efficient defect identification and quality control.
  • System Design: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design vision system architectures that align with business objectives and production requirements.
  • Manufacturing Defect Identification: Develop algorithms and implement advanced image processing techniques to detect and analyze manufacturing defects, ensuring high-quality standards are met
  • Vision System Setup: Configure vision systems, including lightning, positioning, vibration, reflection, lens, and other system characteristics, to optimize performance and ensure reliable operation.
  • Process Optimization: Continuously evaluate and optimize vision system processes to enhance manufacturing efficiency, minimize defects, and improve overall product quality.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with vision system vendors, including assessing new technologies, evaluating vendor capabilities, and negotiating contracts.
  • Team Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to the vision systems engineering team, ensuring effective project execution, mentoring, and professional development
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand manufacturing requirements, identify opportunities for vision system implementation, and provide technical expertise,
  • Documentation: Create detailed technical documentation, including system specifications, user manuals, and standard operating procedures, ensuring knowledge transfer and maintenance of best practices.

Candidate Education:

  • Required Bachelor's Degree.
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Preferred Master's Degree Engineering

Candidate Experience:

  • Required 5+ years of experience in vision system engineering
  • Experience integrating vision systems from vendors like Cognex, Keyence, Teledyne, SICK, Fanuc, KUKA, Dalsa, and others. Integration into manufacturing processes, preferred.
  • Experience in vision system setup characteristics such as lightning, positioning, vibration, reflection, lens, etc.
  • Vision System Expertise: In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with vision systems, image processing techniques, and defect detection algorithms.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, or similar, along with experience in developing software applications for vision systems.
  • Vendor Experience: Strong experience working with vision system vendors like Cognex, Keyence, Teledyne, SICK, Fanuc, KUKA, Dalsa, and other industry-leading vision system providers.
  • Project Management: Proven track record of successfully leading complex vision system integration projects from concept to implementation, ensuring on-time delivery and high-quality results.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex manufacturing processes, identify areas for improvement, and propose innovative solutions.
  • Preferred medical device manufacturing experience
  • Strong experience in writing equipment specifications and developing standards for custom automated manufacturing equipment
  • Experience with electrical control systems and troubleshooting
  • Experience with implementing Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things (IoT) initiatives
  • Experience with automated vision inspection and scanning software and hardware
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards, including OSHA and ANSI

  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Technical Writing (Validation documents, Procedures, and Instructions)
  • Preferred Validation (Installation, Operation, and Production Qualification and Test Method Validation)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Willingness to travel internationally as needed

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma/Lean methods
  • Preferred Green Belt or Black Belt Certification
