REGENT is building the seaglider; the first electric flying machine that will transport commercial passengers. With a vehicle that never flies higher than a few meters off the water, we unlock the ability to fly twice as far as an electric aircraft, and certification by maritime authorities which will let us fly first passengers by mid-decade.
We are backed by the world’s best investors: the same investors who are behind SpaceX, Anduril, and Boom Supersonic, in addition to strategic investors like Lockheed Martin, Japan Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines. We have over $9B in orders from some of the industry’s largest operators and are hard at work getting our full-scale, human-carrying prototype on the water next year.
REGENT is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Vehicle Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Lead Vehicle Software Engineer, as a Senior Vehicle Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and optimizing software systems for our seaglider projects. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless integration of software with hardware components, enabling safe and reliable flight operations. This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of electric aviation and contribute to the development of groundbreaking technology that will redefine air travel.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and maintenance of software systems for seaglider projects, including vehicle guidance, navigation, system management, and communication
- Lead the configuration management, deployment, integration, and testing of software onto vehicle hardware
- Collaborate with hardware engineers, systems engineers, and other stakeholders to define software requirements and specifications
- Optimize software for efficiency, reliability, and real-time performance in resource-constrained embedded systems
- Conduct software-hardware integration, debugging, and verification activities to validate system functionality, reliability, and performance
- Adhere to industry best practices and standards for software development, safety, and quality assurance
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to support their professional growth and development
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends in vehicle software development
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in vehicle software development, preferably in the aerospace or automotive industry
- Proficiency in C++
- Solid knowledge of embedded systems, real-time operating systems, distributed computing systems, and software/hardware interfaces
- Experience in software development lifecycle, from prototyping to vehicle hardware testing, including hardware-in-the-loop simulation, vehicle integration, and field testing
- Knowledge of industry standards and practices for software safety and reliability (e.g., DO-178C)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience with Data Distribution Services (DDS)
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS)
- Experience with embedded systems development, including microcontrollers, sensors, drivers, and communication protocols (CAN,RS232/422, Ethernet)
- Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink and embedded code generation
- Flight test or sea trials experience
- Experience with software development for aerospace missions, including on-board autonomy, fault tolerance, and aerospace communication protocols
- Adept in modern DevOps methodologies, with proficiency in continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, infrastructure automation, and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes

What We Do
REGENT’s mission is to drastically reduce the time and cost of moving people and goods between coastal cities. Our vehicle, called a seaglider, is an all-electric, wing-in-ground-effect craft that operates within a wingspan of the water's surface and couples the speed of an airplane with the operating cost of a boat. Built to the same safety standards as all modern aircraft and watercraft, our vehicle will service routes up to 180 miles with existing battery technology and routes up to 500 miles with next-gen batteries, all via existing dock infrastructure. Our world-class team of aerospace and maritime engineers are leveraging maritime vehicle development pathways to bring our zero-emission, high-speed seagliders to market within five years.
