Are you ready to revolutionize the way data empowers defense operations? As a UX Designer for STR, you'll immerse yourself in the realm of data-centric and user-centric defense applications. Imagine crafting intuitive user experiences that empower military personnel and decision-makers to navigate vast amounts of data effortlessly. The successful candidate will utilize their technical expertise, creativity, and communication skills to design interfaces that seamlessly translate data into actionable insights, enhancing operational efficiency and strategic effectiveness across the defense landscape. STR is seeking candidates ranging from experienced UX designers to technical leads; entry-level designers will not be considered for this role. 

The Role: 
 
You are skilled at breaking down tasks into short- and long-term steps and using a range of information to design and develop innovative UX features that meet customer needs. You approach problems by exploring ideas iteratively and delivering solutions that are technically feasible. This role requires strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, as well as an interest in understanding how things work and a commitment to continuous learning. This role will be hybrid with up to 25% of time required in either our Woburn, MA or Arlington, VA office.

Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Create user-centric and data-centric designs that are intuitive
  • Participate in others’ design efforts, offering constructive feedback to influence teams
  • Use systems-level design thinking to drive design solutions that scale
  • Present design work to leadership and stakeholders
  • Iterate during the design process to ensure optimal usability and engagement with the UIUX Implementation team
  • Communicate with the project team, users, and clients to develop and document requirements
  • Participate as a member of an Agile/Scrum software team
  • Collaborate across numerous programs and divisions within the company
  • Encourage a design culture centered on the customer by promoting best practices and key design principles

Who You Are: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in UI/UX design related field or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of UI/UX design experience
  • Proficient in design tools, such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Axure, InVision, Miro, or equivalent tools
  • Have existing design portfolio
  • Proficient in design systems, user research, and usability testing
  • Experience designing across more than one platform (mobile, desktop, native mobile, VR/MR/AR, movies)
  • Ability to work through complex design solutions and understand the technology behind those solutions
  • Demonstrated understanding of user-centered and data-centric design principles
  • Proactive in keeping up with UX trends and influencing UI/UX strategy
  • Keen attention to detail, considering comprehensive user flows and their impacts
  • Previous experience mentoring teammates
  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas and solutions to teams and partners
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance, for which US citizenship is needed by the US Government

  • Experience designing and creating movies in Final Cut or Adobe Premiere Pro

What are some social events your company does?

To create and foster connections among employees, STR hosts community events monthly. These include paint nights, trivia nights, cooking classes, and other exciting activities.
