Role description:  In this role, you will work directly with public-sector transportation staff to support the planning, analysis, design, operation, and maintenance of local transportation systems. Responsibilities will include traffic studies, field investigations, plan reviews, traffic control device evaluations, traffic signal operations support, technical documentation, and coordination with agency staff, residents, consultants, developers, and partner organizations.
This is an on-site position located in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The selected candidate will be expected to work at the client office five days per week and must be comfortable operating in an embedded role that requires professionalism, responsiveness, sound judgment, and consistent coordination with client staff.
Role accountabilities:  Conduct traffic studies and analyses, including traffic impact studies, speed limit studies, traffic calming evaluations, signal warrant reviews, all-way stop evaluations, pedestrian crossing reviews, and operational assessments.

  • Prepare clear technical reports that summarize findings, document field conditions, and provide defensible recommendations.
  • Review and recommend traffic signing and pavement marking improvements for compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and applicable local, state, and federal standards.
  • Support development and review of temporary traffic control plans for construction projects.
  • Review roadway construction plans, intersection improvements, and roadway improvement designs for traffic-related issues and standard compliance.
  • Coordinate with consultants and developers to resolve traffic-related plan review comments and move transportation improvement projects from concept through construction.
  • Conduct field reviews of intersections, corridors, school zones, and local roadways; investigate citizen concerns related to speeding, congestion, sight distance, signage, and traffic operations.
  • Assist with traffic signal plan design and review, traffic signal operations, and documentation of existing roadway and traffic control conditions.
  • Respond to public inquiries and coordinate with client staff and local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Prepare cost estimates, project documentation, field notes, measurements, and supporting materials needed for local traffic engineering decisions.

Qualifications & Experience:  

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Relevant traffic engineering experience supporting local government transportation programs
  • Engineer-in-Training certification required; Professional Engineer registration in Georgia preferred
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license and be able to conduct field reviews throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area

Arcadis offers benefits for full time and part-time positions. These benefits include medical, dental, and vision, EAP, 401K, STD, LTD, AD&D, life insurance, paid parental leave, reward & recognition program and optional benefits including wellbeing benefits, adoption assistance and tuition reimbursement.  We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $97,680.00 - $146,520.00. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
