Summary Generated by Built In

We are looking for a Senior Test Engineer with strong JavaScript/TypeScript expertise to join our team at Valstro. Our goal is to build scalable, cost-efficient, and maintainable services using modern software development practices—and that means quality is non-negotiable.

Valstro is an ambitious FinTech partnership on a mission to redefine trading technology for global, multi-asset class institutional clients. Whether you see us as a startup or a "baby enterprise," one thing is clear: we are a people-first company. Our success is built on the talent, collaboration, and motivation of our team.

We're not just building software—we're engineering highly modular, well-tested, well-documented, and easily discoverable applications. This approach isn't just good practice; it's our not-so-secret sauce for scaling both our product and our business. And as a Senior Test Engineer, you'll be the guardian of that quality, ensuring every line of code meets our standards.

At Valstro, we're here to shake up an industry that's long overdue for tech-driven disruption. As we expand our capabilities and reach, we aim to push the boundaries of what's possible, challenging outdated industry norms at every turn. Our clients deserve better—and we're here to make it happen. If that vision excites you, keep reading.

What will you be doing?

  • Designing and implementing comprehensive testing strategies for our existing applications and services, as well as contributing to quality assurance for new developments using our in-house testing framework.
  • Participating in architecture discussions, technology selection, and design to ensure testability and deliver high-quality software from the ground up.
  • Building, maintaining, and executing automated test suites that ensure stable, resilient, and performant software across our entire stack.
  • Collaborating across teams to refine testing processes, improve quality tools, and deliver impactful solutions that keep our systems rock-solid.
  • Continuously improving your skills, staying up to date with the latest testing technologies and methodologies, and actively sharing knowledge and best practices with the team.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has:

  • Extensive experience building test automation frameworks and quality assurance processes with JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Strong ability to read, understand, and analyze complex codebases to identify testing opportunities and potential issues.
  • A deep understanding of test design principles and the ability to implement comprehensive testing strategies.
  • Passion for delivering high-quality, performant software in a collaborative team environment.

A good portion of the following:

  • Real-world experience developing and maintaining test automation systems in JavaScript/TypeScript, including the use of popular testing frameworks and libraries.
  • Fluent use of terminal environments and Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) for day-to-day development and testing activities.
  • Experience with functional programming paradigms—a significant advantage for building robust, maintainable test code.
  • Hands-on experience designing test strategies and implementing them across various testing levels (unit, integration, end-to-end).
  • Practical experience with observability and monitoring tools.
  • Bonus: Experience with Loki/Tempo/Grafana for system monitoring and test result analysis.
  • Bonus: Experience developing testing frameworks for Equity Trading systems in Capital Markets.

Personal Qualities We Value

  • Curious: Natural inquisitiveness and desire to understand how systems work—and how they might break.
  • Self-learner: Proactive approach to acquiring new skills and staying current with testing methodologies and tools.
  • Motivated: High energy and enthusiasm for ensuring software quality and reliability.
  • Autonomous: Ability to work independently, take ownership of testing initiatives, and drive quality improvements.
  • Self-starter: Initiative to identify quality gaps, propose solutions, and implement improvements without constant direction.

Benefits

Valstro was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic and has operated on a remote-first basis ever since. However, as the world returns to normal, we also recognize that certain types of knowledge work benefit immensely from in-person collaboration. To support this, we established our physical office in Midtown NYC three years ago, providing a dedicated space for teams to connect and collaborate.

We are a distributed team, with staff in the UK, the NYC area, and across the US. While remote work remains a core part of our culture, NYC-based employees are expected to take advantage of the Midtown office space and collaborate in person on a regular basis.

Regardless of location, Valstro is a fantastic place to work. Valstro offers an excellent benefits package, including top-tier health insurance and highly competitive compensation. Our leadership team brings a wealth of experience and deep industry knowledge, and despite being a young company, we believe we have carefully dialed in our product-market fit. As we move forward in executing our vision for clients, the Engineering team is looking for client-obsessed, delivery-focused, high performers, ready for the future of FinTech.

If this excites you, we'd love to chat!
