We are seeking a Senior Test Engineer to interpret, define, and implement effective testing processes for large power transformers in accordance with customer requirements and industry standards. You will serve as a technical expert in electrical power testing, high-voltage engineering techniques, and automated test systems while partnering cross functionally to improve efficiency, accuracy, and safety through continuous improvement activities.

What You’ll Do

  • Define and implement effective transformer testing processes that meet customer and industry requirements.
  • Review customer specifications, industry standards, and testing capabilities to identify and resolve gaps.
  • Lead the test review process and collaborate with engineering and project management on corrective and improvement actions.
  • Train test technicians, mentor test engineers, and provide technical training to internal and external customers.
  • Troubleshoot test failures and product defects using technical and analytical tools.
  • Develop electrical calculations and test setups, including instrumentation and detailed circuitry design, for new or nonstandard transformer designs to accomplish testing requirements.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, safety, efficiency, accuracy, and process reliability.
  • Analyze test results using statistical tools and recommend improvements to engineering and manufacturing.
  • Serve as a technical resource for diagnostic testing, including RSO and PD triangulation.
  • Manage assigned capital projects and provide technical support for additional capital investments.
  • Develop preventive maintenance plans and assist maintenance teams with troubleshooting test equipment.
  • Prepare, certify, and approve test reports while resolving customer-related technical issues during and after testing.

 

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with experience in high voltage.
  • Five or more years of experience in transformer design or testing, utilities, or electrical test automation.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical test systems and IEEE standards.
  • Experience with automated test systems and instrumentation.
  • Experience with LabVIEW, PCI, National Instruments systems, Siemens PLCs, control systems, or similar testing technologies.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and project management skills.
  • Ability to navigate technical ambiguity and develop practical solutions.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to technical and nontechnical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, High-Voltage Engineering, Automation, or Business Administration.
  • Programming experience with Visual Studio, Visual Basic, C++, or Python.

 

Work Environment

This position works across both office and shop-floor environments on a large manufacturing campus. The role requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and occasionally work at heights with appropriate fall protection.
