If you want to build and own the automated testing platform that powers a core piece of developer infrastructure, this is for you. You will focus on writing high-impact code, removing engineering friction, and setting the technical direction for quality on TeamCity.
About JetBrainsWe create intelligent software development tools for developers and teams. More than 15 million users, over 300,000 companies, and 88 of the Fortune Global Top 100 rely on our products to solve real, complex problems. Our mission is simple: make development teams more productive and AI adoptable at scale.
What you’ll doAs our user base grows and enterprise pipelines become more complex, ensuring the highest quality for TeamCity is critical for the people who depend on us daily.
We are looking for a senior engineer to own the quality engineering platform behind TeamCity. This is not a manual testing role or a suite maintenance job. You will spend your time writing code, building the tooling and frameworks that enable dozens of product engineers to ship confidently, removing manual work surrounding releases, and making our developer experience measurably better.
You will lead the technical direction for quality on a large, feature-rich product, bring practical AI approaches into the workflow where they genuinely add value, and collaborate across teams to help product engineers own their tests.
Day to day, you will:
- Evolve the automated testing platform, including frameworks, infrastructure, reporting, and CI/CD chains.
- Identify slow, manual, or fragile parts of our engineering process – such as release automation, feedback loops, and test flakiness – and fix them at the root.
- Integrate AI into the quality workflow for test generation with guardrails, automated failure triage, and self-healing tests.
- Work directly with product teams to help them write and own their tests, review their contributions, and evangelize solid test design.
- Investigate failures and flakiness across both tests and product code to drive them to resolution.
- Participate in all stages of product development, from initial design through release, interacting with internal and external users.
- An engineer’s approach to quality, preferring to build tools and automate processes rather than maintain legacy tasks.
- Strong architectural judgment and a commitment to writing clean, maintainable code.
- Practical curiosity about AI, with a clear point of view on where it genuinely helps and where it falls short.
- A habit of working independently without formal specifications, figuring out the product, and determining what matters most.
- Clear, direct communication skills and the initiative to walk up to developers and persuade teams to improve how they work.
- An interest in mentoring colleagues, setting technical standards, and sharing knowledge across teams.
- Advanced skills in Kotlin or Java, with a solid grasp of object-oriented design and design patterns.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining test automation for complex, mission-critical backends, web services, or desktop applications.
- Proficiency with testing frameworks (TestNG or JUnit) and browser automation (Selenium WebDriver, Selenide, or Playwright).
- Experience with build automation tools such as Gradle or Maven, containerization using Docker or Podman, and reporting tools like Allure.
- Command of Git and a solid understanding of software testing principles and concurrent programming concepts.
- A proven track record of creating internal platform tools or developer-experience improvements that measurably speed up engineering workflows.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
Success in this role means transforming our quality infrastructure into a seamless, fast, and reliable platform that engineering teams love to use. You will have eliminated major sources of manual release work, reduced test flakiness, and established automated feedback loops that let developers ship code with total confidence. Product engineers will independently write high-quality tests using your frameworks, and your pragmatic integration of AI tools will have measurably improved failure triage and test creation.
