U.S. Tax, Foreign Bank Branches & Financial Institutions
About the Role
This is a high-ownership in-house position. You will serve as the primary internal tax lead while managing external advisors and coordinating closely with Finance, Legal, Compliance, Regulatory Reporting, and Head Office teams. The role covers the full spectrum of U.S. tax, from compliance and provision to planning and transaction support.
You will lead U.S. tax matters for the operations of a foreign banking organization, including federal branch compliance, tax governance, reporting, and advisory support across affiliated entities.
Responsibilities
• Own tax oversight for U.S. federal branch/agency operations, including compliance with federal, state, and local requirements
• Manage tax filings across income/franchise taxes, withholding, branch allocations, and financial institution-specific returns
• Lead ASC 740 income tax accounting; provisions, deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions, and financial statement disclosures
• Advise on new products, intercompany structures, cross-border transactions, and strategic restructurings
• Support affiliated broker-dealer and regulated entity tax matters as applicable
• Maintain the tax control framework and ensure audit readiness
• Manage external advisor relationships and coordinate with Head Office on global tax policy and transfer pricing
What we're looking for
• 7+ years of tax experience in banking, foreign banking organizations, broker-dealers, or regulated financial institutions
• CPA, MST, JD, or equivalent advanced tax qualification preferred
• Strong command of U.S. federal and state taxation of financial institutions
• Hands-on ASC 740 experience in a complex or multinational environment
• Prior in-house experience at a bank or foreign bank branch strongly preferred
• Excellent judgment, communication, and stakeholder management skills
