Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineering Manager (Level L) to join the Reliability, Maintainability, and Systems Health (RM&SH) Team in Berkeley, MO.
The Senior Systems Engineering Manager will lead and scale the Reliability, Maintainability, and Systems Health (RM&SH) capability for the Air Dominance organization. This senior leader will be responsible for the multi-team RM&SH capability, providing people, processes, and tools that deliver RM&SH solutions across multiple aircraft programs and platforms. This leader will manage a team of engineers and technical staff who define, develop, verify, and sustain system reliability, maintainability, and system health monitoring solutions for aircraft programs. The role blends technical leadership, program execution, process development, and people management to ensure RM&SH characteristics and deliverables meet Boeing and customer requirements. This leader will be responsible for technical oversight, cross-program portfolio management, talent development, tool development, and process improvement.
Position Responsibilities
  • Lead and grow a matrixed RM&SH organization (multiple teams / technical leads / engineers), including staffing plans, talent acquisition, retention, succession planning, and organizational design to meet near term and long term needs of multiple programs and platforms. The team includes Carrier Suitability Engineering.
  • Develop and implement an RM&SH capability roadmap across the Air Dominance portfolio. Align capability goals with program, division, and business unit objectives.
  • Provide governance for RM&SH engineering approaches, tools, and processes across programs.
  • Lead supplier and subcontractor RM&SH engagement at the senior level. Negotiate scopes, technical deliverables, and performance expectations. Oversee major supplier technical reviews and corrective actions.
  • Develop, track, and report capability health metrics, risks, opportunities, and roadmaps.
  • Mentor and develop engineering talent through regular 1:1s, career planning, knowledge transfer, and performance management.

Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically and/or internationally depending on business needs.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim U.S. Secret Clearance Pre-Start and final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 10+ years of engineering leadership experience with at least 3 years of management experience.
  • 5+ years of systems engineering and RM&SH experience applied to avionics, aircraft systems, sensors, or other complex platforms.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
  • Proficiency in reliability prediction methods, FMEA/FMECA, RCM, FRACAS, maintenance concept development, and reliability growth.
  • Prior experience in supplier technical management.
  • Prior Earned Value Management (EVM) experience as a Control Account Manager (CAM).
  • Proficiency in Model-Based Systems Engineering tools and practices.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop engineers, foster collaboration, and facilitate technical decision making.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Summary pay range: $170,000 - $230,000
