Own the Engineering Behind the Next Generation of Connected HVACR Tools

Are you an experienced product development engineer who loves seeing the big picture—not just designing individual components, but bringing mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software technologies together to create exceptional products?

Fieldpiece is the innovation leader in professional HVACR tools and test instruments, trusted by technicians around the world to solve complex challenges every day.  Named one of the Best Places to Work in Southern California for four consecutive years, we're looking for talented people who want to make an impact while growing their careers.

We're investing aggressively in product innovation, connected technologies, and world-class engineering capabilities - and we're looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to help drive what's next.  This is an opportunity for an engineer who wants to move beyond traditional mechanical or electrical engineering and take technical ownership of an entire product line. You'll bring together multiple engineering disciplines, drive system architecture and technical decisions, and ensure that every component works together to deliver outstanding product performance and reliability.  You'll work closely with internal engineering teams and external development and manufacturing partners, providing the technical leadership needed to turn complex ideas into successful products.

This position is in our Park City, CA office with an exciting move to Heber City, UT in summer 2027.  This role follows a hybrid work schedule, with employees typically working onsite three days per week. Additional in-office days may be required from time to time for onboarding, training, team meetings, project collaboration, or other business needs.

What You'll Do

  • Own the technical direction of a product line - driving system architecture, design decisions, and overall product integration.
  • Bring technologies together, ensuring mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software components work seamlessly as a complete system.
  • Lead technical execution across engineering disciplines, collaborating with internal teams and external development and manufacturing partners.
  • Drive product performance and reliability through system-level problem-solving, optimization, integration, testing, and validation.
  • Establish and manage product requirements, ensuring clear specifications, documentation, and traceability throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Champion engineering best practices, including repository management, version control, code reviews, and development workflows.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, resolving complex challenges and making sound engineering decisions that keep development moving forward.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, guiding engineers, influencing decisions, and helping teams deliver innovative, high-quality products.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in product development, systems engineering, or technical leadership involving complex physical, electro-mechanical products.
  • Demonstrated ability to take technical ownership of a product or complex system, from architecture and requirements through integration, testing, and validation.
  • Solid understanding of system architecture, hardware/software integration, embedded systems, and engineering design principles.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines and with external development or manufacturing partners.
  • Knowledge of requirements management, technical documentation, and requirements traceability.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and drive effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and lead through expertise rather than direct authority.
