The Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (SEIT) Department of Boston Dynamics (BD) seeks a highly talented Systems Engineer (SE) who is passionate about working with an exceptional team of roboticists to develop the world’s most capable, safe, and reliable humanoid robot.  This Systems Engineer will focus primarily on engineering the future of robotics by integrating advanced sensing and compute architectures into robust, compact platforms. Join a world-class team to bring high-performance product designs to life at scale.

You will help develop and promote the Systems Engineering (SE) approach that spans requirements generation, architectural trade studies, performance attribute engineering, system analysis, simulation, design, integration, and testing. You will be innovating not only on product implementation of advanced robotic technologies, but you will also be helping with new approaches to the SE discipline at Boston Dynamics.

How you will make an impact:

  • Work alongside Product, UI, Mechanical, Electrical, and Software teams to derive system requirements that guide the development of compute and sensing systems as part of the subsystem leadership team.

  • Help develop a compatible set of performance targets, including safety, user experience, reliability, robustness, cost, package, manufacturability, and numerous functional attributes. Facilitate activities that accelerate product design convergence to these targets, including trade studies, DFMEAs, design reviews, and verification planning.

  • Build knowhow on Jama tool functionality to customize and configure the tool in support of the product team’s evolving needs.  Ensure requirements are well organized within the Jama database, traced to related requirements, verification plans, verification results, and potentially other entities of interest.

  • Track and report on requirements development and verification progress, identify holes, mitigate risks, and help drive issue closure.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Exceptional written & verbal communication, interpersonal skills, collaboration, and conflict resolution.

  • 3+ years of experience systems engineering of complex mechatronic systems

  • 5+ years of experience in electronics technology development with proven PCBA, and electromechanical product delivery.

  • BS in engineering (Robotics, Computers, Software, Electrical, Systems, or similar).

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Mobile robotics, robotic manipulation, and perception sensing technologies.

  • Experience working intimately with a specialized requirements management tool.  Expertise in Jama is especially helpful.

  • Authoring, reviewing, and approving a wide variety of requirements.

  • Reliability & robustness engineering methodologies, including boundary and parameter diagramming, DFMEA, DVP&R, root cause analysis, statistical methods.

  • Safety-critical system development.

  • Working in automotive manufacturing and assembly plants.

  • Highly relevant design domains include cameras, user interfaces, LEDs, 2-way audio, PCBAs, flex circuits, wire harnesses, connectors, radios, computers, microcontrollers,. batteries, BMS, and chargers.

  • Software tools including Jama, Jira, Google Suite, Altium, Testrails, Python, Matlab.

  • Familiarity with relevant electrical standards, IEC 62368, IEC 60204, along with WiFi, Cellular, and EMI compliance.

Skills Required

  • 3+ years of experience systems engineering of complex mechatronic systems
  • 5+ years of experience in electronics technology development with proven PCBA, and product delivery
  • 2+ years experience working intimately with a specialized requirements management tool
  • BS in engineering (Robotics, Computers, Software, Electrical, Systems, or similar)
