The key function of the Senior Systems Designer is to create and improve upon systems and features across the game in order to achieve product goals. They are responsible for creating and broadcasting design vision on large, complex features and economy work. Once the design is established, they will work closely with a number of other disciplines across the team in order to execute on that vision. There is an opportunity for this role to grow into a Lead Systems Designer in the future.


This is hybrid position is based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

In this role, you can expect to be involved in:

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create compelling player experiences:
  • Lead collaboration with Engineers, Data Scientists, and Live Operations to design engaging game systems and features that delight players.
  • Work closely with the team to align the game's economy with technical feasibility and user experience goals.

  • Provide strategic input on the game's vision and champion it:
  • Offer strategic insights into the game's vision, with a focus on leveraging systems to craft player experiences that align with product goals.
  • Advocate for the game's vision to other team members.

  • Manage and mentor designers:
  • Management of other designers include goal setting, providing guidance and regular reviews of the individual’s body of work.
  • Be an example of a strong systems and economy designer; hold reports to these standards and deliver critical feedback and set clear expectations when necessary

  • Design advanced rules and parameters for features and systems:
  • Develop complex and innovative rules and parameters for in-game features and systems, ensuring depth and richness in the game's economy.
  • Balance and fine-tune systems to create an engaging and balanced player progression.

  • Design, implement, and lead tuning of game systems and economies:
  • Lead the design and implementation of game systems and economies, ensuring they align with the game's vision and long-term goals.
  • Continuously and strategically tune and balance these systems based on feedback from game teams, user testing, and the player community.

  • Create comprehensive design documentation and visual aids:
  • Produce detailed design documents, drawings, diagrams, and flowcharts to communicate complex economic design functionality and vision effectively.
  • Ensure clarity and precision in conveying design concepts to the team.

  • Lead iterative adjustments based on feedback:
  • Drive iterative design adjustments and balancing efforts based on feedback from game teams, user testing, and the broader player community.
  • Analyze data and player behavior to make informed design decisions.

  • Define virtual products and their statistics in collaboration with the development team:
  • Lead the definition of virtual products and their statistics, collaborating closely with the development team to ensure they align with the game's economic design.
  • Understand how each virtual product contributes to the game's dynamics and overall economy.

  • Focus on building free-to-play mobile games with exceptional player engagement:
  • Prioritize designing free-to-play games that offer compelling and captivating experiences to players.
  • Explore and implement monetization strategies that enhance player enjoyment and engagement.

  • Continuously innovate and elevate game design practices:
  • Stay at the forefront of industry trends and best practices in systems design, economy design and player behavior analysis.
  • Introduce cutting-edge methodologies and innovative ideas to enhance the game's economic systems.

To be successful in this role, your background includes:

  • Post-secondary education in Game Design, Economics, Psychology, Mathematics, Marketing or related field.
  • 5+ years experience as a Systems Designer, with fluency in F2P. 
  • Economy design background is preferred.
  • Experience managing designers and supporting their career growth.
  • Experience working within spreadsheets.
  • Thorough understanding and appreciation of game design. As a player, you have a deep understanding of needs and emotions in the context of a game.
  • Incredibly analytical thinking with the ability to break problems down.
  • Market-knowledge that equips you with free-to-play product trends and monetization strategies to improve performance in the game.
