Job Description

The Senior Systems Administrator oversees all IT operations for the company from managing desktop computers to participating in the planning and budgeting for the future corporate IT infrastructure. The Senior Systems Administrator works closely with the DevOps manager to ensure alignment in technologies, monitoring practices, and disaster recovery. They also work closely with the Security manager to insure appropriate security protocols are implemented and managed. This individual is detail oriented and driven to accomplish all the work necessary to ensure smooth operations. They are a problem solver with great time management skills and the ability to work independently or with other employee owners to resolve issues effectively and efficiently. The Senior Systems Administrator reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Seven+ (7) years of professional IT experience Windows systems administration
  • A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other related technology fields
  • Either live in Tallahassee, FL or are planning to move to the Tallahassee area
  • Must confidently pass rigorous fingerprint-based state and federal background screenings, as required by the nationwide agencies we work with (mandatory)
  • Does not require sponsorship to work in the U.S.; sponsorship is not available for this particular position

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee IT operations, systems and third-party providers
  • Collaborate on development of, manage and track organizational technology strategy (cloud, information systems, security, communication systems)
  • Develop, manage, and track the IT department's annual budget
  • Ensure smooth delivery and operation of IT services by monitoring systems' performance
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology to improve corporate efficiency
  • Create processes and standards for selection, implementation, and support of systems
  • Administer and provide direction, guidance, and training to office staff on various IT systems
  • Act as the primary point of contact with third-party providers of technology
  • Responsible for end-to-end project management, support, service and execution of the IT integration processes
  • Review of current IT providers, nature of services, and terms
  • Owner of all communication and telecommunication expenditures; evaluate current providers and create efficiencies and optimize services provided
  • Fully understand, provide guidance, and administer Company policies and procedures accurately and consistently; manage the various compliance requirements throughout the organization
  • Establish or upgrade IT procedures as needed while recommending changes to improve the efficiencies to minimize manual administration, workflow bottlenecks and repetitive data entry
  • Manage system infrastructure including databases, firewalls, and other software and hardware
  • Provide technical support for both hardware and software issues that may arise
  • Make recommendations for future server and software upgrades and implement changes
  • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
  • Troubleshoot issues and outages
  • Follow security protocol and ensure security through access controls, backups, and firewalls
  • Establish backup systems, verify that the backups have been completed, and test the backups
  • Perform disaster recovery (DR) activities as needed
  • Build and maintain internal wiki with technical documentation, manuals, and IT policies
  • Study technical and patch literature to keep abreast of the latest technologies and patch updates
  • Assist in integrating new applications and technologies into the current system
  • Analyze requirements then disseminate, evaluate, articulate, and design solutions
  • Create technical documentation for reference and reporting
  • Research and implement ideas to improve system performance and impact availability

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of current security protocols and threats
  • Experience in analysis, implementation, and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications
  • Experience in controlling information technology budgets
  • Have at least three (3) years of Windows administration experience (required)
  • Have working knowledge of SQL, including administration of SQL Server or MySQL databases
  • Have networking experience (nice to have)
  • Have worked with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or other cloud hosting services
  • Are able and available to work 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, with flexible hours as needed
  • Are effective at communicating with customers, colleagues, and management
  • Ability to sit at a desk for one or more hours at a time
  • Ability to operate a computer and other equipment in the office
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and assignments throughout the day
  • Ability to infrequently lift objects like displays, servers, etc. up to 50 lbs unassisted
