Senior Systems Operations Engineer 

We are seeking an experienced Senior System Operations Engineer to join our team. In this senior role, the engineer will lead system provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance efforts to ensure stable, optimized operations. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in Linux systems administration and configuration management and will also provide mentorship to junior team members while contributing to the documentation and development of best practices. 

Key Responsibilities: 

The Senior System Operations Engineer will take ownership of provisioning and configuring Linux-based systems across various server roles, including edge servers and application-specific servers. They will ensure consistent and compliant system configurations, leveraging tools such as Rudder to automate and standardize setups across environments. Additionally, they will play a key role in creating and maintaining documentation for these processes, building a knowledge base that supports team-wide efficiency and scalability. 

Key responsibilities:

• Monitoring and troubleshooting Linux-based systems to ensure reliability, performance, and availability.
• Setup and configuration of physical and virtual machines from scratch, including operating system installation and basic network configuration.
• Provisioning, management, and maintenance of storage solutions, including backup configuration and data protection activities.
• Management and automation of system configurations, using automation and delivery tools to ensure consistency across environments.
• Configuration, support, and automation of CI/CD software, contributing to streamlined deployment and delivery processes.
• Support for network-related system operations, assisting in diagnosing and resolving infrastructure-level issues.

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 

• 8+ years of experience in a System Operations or related role, with a strong background in high-demand industries such as broadcast, media, or digital video. 

• Advanced knowledge of Linux operating systems, including system administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
• Strong experience with virtualization technologies and systems, including setup, configuration, and day-to-day operations of virtual machines.
• Advanced scripting skills using Bash / Shell, with the ability to write custom scripts for system automation and monitoring tasks.
• System monitoring expertise, including the ability to build and maintain custom monitoring scripts and tools.
• Strong troubleshooting skills, with a methodical approach to diagnosing and resolving system-level issues.
• Good understanding of networking fundamentals, including: HTTP / HTTPS flows, Web services concepts and DNS resolution and troubleshooting
• Experience with storage provisioning and backup management, ensuring data availability and integrity.
• Configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network devices, including Cisco equipment.

Nice to have: 

• Experience with or exposure to CDN infrastructures. 

• Exposure to edge computing and real-time system demands.
