With 65+ years of expertise, our ecosystem of interconnected products combined with our complete vehicle expertise uniquely positions us to advance mobility in an expanded transportation landscape.
Job Responsibilities:
Magna IT is looking for a Senior System Engineer with a strong focus on application packaging and automated software deployment using Microsoft Intune and Matrix42 Empirum. In this role, you will own packaging standards end-to-end and drive platform operations for Empirum (used to manage Windows-based shopfloor systems) and FastViewer (our cross-platform remote control solution). You will lead complex troubleshooting and lifecycle activities, partner closely with application owners and global IT stakeholders, and proactively improve service stability through automation, standardization, and operational excellence using PowerShell.
Major Responsibilities
- Create, maintain, and lifecycle-manage application packages (Win32/MSI/MSIX) for deployment via Microsoft Intune and Matrix42 Empirum
- Define and enforce packaging standards (naming, detection rules, requirements, supersedence, uninstall, versioning) and ensure high-quality, silent and GUI installs
- Operate and maintain the Empirum platform (e.g. server components, distribution, policies, inventory, patch/app deployment) for Windows-based shopfloor (production) systems
- Manage and further develop FastViewer as the cross-platform remote control solution (configuration, access concepts, troubleshooting, updates)
- Design and implement automation and self-service improvements using PowerShell (packaging automation, health checks, reporting, remediation)
- Coordinate with application owners and IT stakeholders to clarify requirements, testing, rollout planning, and release communication
- Troubleshoot application installation issues and deployment failures (Intune/Empirum client side and backend) and provide root-cause analysis
- Maintain technical documentation (packaging guides, runbooks, standards) and ensure auditable, reproducible deployments
- Provide 2nd and 3rd level support for packaging/platform topics and collaborate with global/local IT for stable operations
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives (standardization, automation, monitoring, KPI/reporting) across Modern Workplace services
- Participation in on-call rotation (if required) and support during maintenance windows
Knowledge and Education
- Preferably Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a relevant field.
- Completed education of a technical college.
Work Experience and Skills
- 5+ years of experience in application packaging and software deployment in enterprise environments (incl. MS Intune; experience with Matrix42 Empirum is a plus)
- Hands-on skills with packaging formats and tooling (MSI, MSIX, Win32 apps, InstallShield) including scripting for silent installs and uninstall
- PS App Deployment Toolkit experience advantageous
- Strong Windows client knowledge (Windows 11) and understanding of shopfloor (production) requirements (stability, controlled changes, limited downtime)
- Experience operating and troubleshooting Empirum components (agents, distribution, policies, inventories, deployment logs) advantageous
- Experience with remote support / remote control platforms (preferably FastViewer) and troubleshooting distributed endpoints
- Good understanding of software deployment concepts (detection methods, dependencies, supersedence, compliance, ring-based rollouts) and log-based troubleshooting
- Expert PowerShell scripting skills to implement automation (packaging helpers, deployments, remediation scripts, reporting) and to integrate with APIs where required
- Ability to lead packaging/deployment initiatives (standards, rollout strategies, governance) and mentor peers; strong stakeholder management and communication
- Good knowledge of Modern Workplace platform components such as Windows Autopilot, Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, and endpoint compliance concepts
- Comfortable with version control and automation pipelines (e.g., Git, CI/CD) to manage packaging scripts, configuration-as-code, and repeatable releases
- Understanding of endpoint security requirements (hardening, least privilege, signing, vulnerability/patch management) and experience with operational monitoring/reporting (desired)
- Process-oriented mindset; experience working with change/release management in regulated or shopfloor-critical environments is a plus
Other Competencies
- Positive attitude and a strong commitment to delivering quality work.
- Knowledge of client lifecycle management systems and current computing trends.
- Effective English communication skills (written and verbal) to properly articulate complicated technical matters to management, IT partners and the end users
- Can work independently or part of a team.
- Conform with and abide by all Company codes, regulations, policies, values, work procedures and instructions.
- Must be an independent problem solver with troubleshooting, decision-making and analytical skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
