Position Description

Ceribell is looking for a highly technical, hands-on Senior or Staff Firmware Engineer / Embedded Engineer who is passionate about biomedical applications and who has experience in the development of embedded or IoT products. The successful candidate will join the R&D team and will play a key role in the development of the next generation of Ceribell’s life saving technologies. You must be able to work collaboratively as part of a cross-functional R&D team, but you must also be able to take individual ownership for development, testing, and documentation of your projects.

What you'll achieve 
  • Linux & Yocto OS Architecture: Architect, build, and maintain production-ready Yocto/OpenEmbedded distributions tailored for the Ezurio Nitrogen95 SMARC platform and NXP i.MX 95 family. 
  • Application Development: Design and implement C/C++ and Python system applications, background services, and IPC mechanisms running on top of the custom Linux stack.
  • BSP & Hardware Bring-Up: Partner with external BSP vendors and internal EE hardware teams to configure board support packages, device trees, drivers, and peripheral interfaces (PCIe, CAN, USB, Ethernet, WiFi/Bluetooth).
  • System Integration & Optimization: Drive kernel tuning, boot-time optimization, resource management, and hardware acceleration leveraging the i.MX 95 (e.g., NPU, GPU, image processing pipeline).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the firmware expert interfacing with Systems, Hardware, Quality, and Product Management to translate system requirements into reliable software designs.

 

What you’ll need to be successful

MS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering or

related field. Graduate degree preferred.

  • 6-10+ years of experience in Embedded Linux development, Yocto layer management, and system-level firmware architecture. 
  • Yocto Mastery: Deep expertise creating and customizing Yocto layers, recipes (bitbake), device tree modifications, and custom image configurations.
  • System Networking & Peripherals: Experience integrating WiFi/Bluetooth modules, IoT communications, and standard buses (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet).
  • Embedded GUIs & Signal Processing: Experience with embedded GUI frameworks (Qt, LVGL) or integrating digital signal processing (DSP)/data pipelines is a strong plus.
  • Core Languages: Proficient in C, C++, and Python for system-level programming and script automation.
  • Experience with designing and implementing sensor-based systems preferred
  • Prefer experience reading hardware schematics and working close to hardware; familiarity with PCB design or signal routing is a strong plus.
  • Strong analytical skills, detail-oriented and collaborative
  • Regulated Industry Experience: Prior background in MedTech/medical devices or safety-critical systems subject to strict quality and regulatory standards is highly desirable.


Compensation Range
$160,000$225,000 USD

A candidate’s final salary offer will be based on their skills, education, work location and experience, and thus it may differ from the posted range. Compensation may also include bonuses consistent with Ceribell’s corporate compensation plan.
