We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Specialist, Data Management to join our Economic Forecasting team. This role is located in Pittsburgh, PA or Lake Mary, FL. 

The Economic Forecasting Group (EFG) is part of the Risk Modeling group within the Risk & Compliance (R&C) division of the Bank of New York (BNY). EFG is responsible for scenario design and expansion in support of several exercises including (1) the BNY's regulatory stress-testing (including the CCAR/DFAST and EBA/ECB stress tests), (2) quarterly CECL/IFRS 9 reserve estimation, and (3) ad hoc scenario-based analyses as frequently as requested by senior management. The scenarios provided by EFG encompass the joint evolution of macroeconomic aggregates (GDP, inflation, unemployment, etc.) and financial market indicators spanning several distinct asset classes. 

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Responsible for managing macroeconomic and financial data. 
  • Key responsibilities include collecting data, periodically updating existing data sets, reviewing data for revisions and accuracy, and maintaining documentation for data procedures. 
  • Support model development by working closely with model developers.
  • Collaborate with vendors, key forecasting partners across the company, consumers of macroeconomic scenarios, and subject matter experts.
  • Assist in managing inbound questions, deliverables, and ad hoc requests, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and the timely completion of deliverables within prescribed timelines.
  • Requires regular written and verbal interaction with downstream modelers who use macroeconomic scenarios, as well as with various teams across the bank, including Finance, Treasury, and Model Risk Management. 
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills are essential for achieving goals in a complex, high-priority environment. 
  • Programming skills in R or Python are preferred but not required.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

  • Strong quantitative skills: Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline, including Economics/ Econometrics/Quantitative Finance/Statistics, etc. is preferred.
  • 2+ years of work experience in research/forecasting/business analytics for a leading financial institution/central bank, consulting firm or similar, with a strong background/interest in economics 
  • Extremely focused, detail oriented and highly productive with ability to synthesize large amounts of data and various viewpoints and summarize key concepts 
  • Excellent organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills 
  • A proven track record of executing deliverables and meeting deadlines under pressure 
  • Works well individually and in teams, shares information, supports colleagues, and encourages participation.

    Base salary offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.     Skills Required

    • 2+ years of experience in research, forecasting, or business analytics, preferably at a financial institution, central bank, consulting firm, or similar organization
    • Strong quantitative skills and a strong background or interest in economics
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines under pressure
    • Ability to synthesize large amounts of data and summarize key concepts
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams
    • Master's degree in economics, econometrics, quantitative finance, statistics, or another quantitative discipline
    • Programming skills in R or Python
