Senior Software Engineer

Metal is an AI-powered operating system for founders raising venture rounds. We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer who is equally at home designing a high-throughput backend API and building a polished, high-performance frontend experience. This is a role for someone who thinks in systems, ships with conviction, and takes deep ownership of their work — from database schema to UI component.

• Build, scale, and maintain full stack systems across Node.js, TypeScript, React, and Next.js (or Similar)

• Design and implement performant APIs, background jobs, and async data workflows

• Develop advanced frontend systems that deliver a seamless experience for startup founders managing fundraising workflows

• Drive key technical decisions that balance business goals, product needs, and long-term scalability

• Lead architecture and design discussions across both the frontend and backend domains

• Collaborate closely with founders, design, and other engineering teams to ship meaningful features

• Own performance, reliability, and observability across your services

• Write clean, testable code and participate in high-quality code reviews

• Mentor other engineers and help define engineering standards and team culture

• Proactively identify opportunities to improve architecture, speed, and developer experience

Non-Negotiable Qualities

• Exceptional Technical Ability: You’ve led the build of complex systems at scale and have deep expertise in TypeScript, React & Next.js (or similar).

• Professionalism & Drive: You show up on time, own outcomes, communicate proactively, and bring a sense of urgency to your work.

• Intellectual Curiosity & Learning Capacity: You take initiative to understand the “why,” ask hard questions, and build strong product intuition over time.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in full stack engineering

• Proven ability to lead projects and make architectural decisions

• Mastery of modern frameworks and patterns (React, Next.js, TypeScript)

• Experience building design systems or reusable component libraries

• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset

• Experience balancing speed, scope, and tech debt in a startup or fast-moving environment

Preferred

• Experience building software for other developers (internal tools, SDKs, platforms)

• A strong sense of design and user experience

• Familiarity with full-stack environments and backend integration

• Background in high-growth startups or product-led companies
