About SuperCircle
SuperCircle is building the infrastructure to close the loop in fashion. We’re the technology and reverse logistics operating system powering circularity for brands and retailers—capturing apparel, footwear, accessories, and home textiles from 2,200+ retail locations and routing them to their highest-value next life through AI-powered sortation across 50+ reuse and recycling streams. As the first and only textile waste management platform of our kind, we process end-of-life textiles into reuse and recycling channels, unlocking best-in-class profitability and sustainability outcomes for our partners, including Lululemon, Target, Nike, J.Crew, GUESS, Reformation, FIGS, and Parachute Home.
In late 2025, we closed a $24M Series A led by Foundry to scale our supply chain data capture, AI-driven sorting, and textile recovery infrastructure. We’re a small, senior team building the rails for an industry that has, until now, run on spreadsheets and pallets.
Our mission is simple: to profitably divert 1B+ textiles from landfill by 2030—and we’re on track to do it.
About the Role
We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to own meaningful surface area of the SuperCircle platform end-to-end — from the consumer-facing trade-in experience, through the partner admin dashboards used by retail operations teams, into the warehouse and logistics systems that move physical goods, and out to the integrations that connect us to our retail and logistics partners.
This is a hands-on IC role on a team that ships daily. You will write production code, design schemas, review PRs, and shape how we use AI in our development loop. We expect strong opinions about tradeoffs, a bias toward shipping, and genuine care for the people downstream of your code — both the customers recycling a sweater and the warehouse staff scanning it.
This role is **based in New York City**. Candidates must be local to the NYC metro area and able to work from our NYC office. We are not considering remote or relocation candidates for this role.
What You'll Do
- Design and build features across our APIs, web applications, and backend services
- Model new domains in our database schema, picking access patterns and indexing strategies that hold up under real load
- Build and harden integrations with retail and logistics partners
- Own warehouse and reverse-logistics workflows — scanning, manifests, parcel tracking, inventory — where bugs have physical consequences
- Drive technical decisions with a written-down rationale: RFCs when needed, ADRs when they'd outlive the conversation, and crisp PR descriptions always
- Mentor mid-level engineers through code review and pairing; raise the bar on testing, observability, and operational discipline
- Help shape and evolve our AI-assisted development workflow so the team ships faster without ceding judgment
What We’re Looking For
Experience
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years at a senior level shipping production systems that other engineers depend on
- A track record of owning systems end-to-end: design, implementation, rollout, on-call, and iteration
Engineering Fundamentals
- Strong **TypeScript / Node.js** background — you've debugged async issues, type-system edge cases, and bundler quirks, not just used the happy path
- Production experience with a **modern GraphQL or REST API** at scale — schema design, query performance, N+1 mitigation, versioning
- Production experience with **React** and a modern meta-framework (Next.js, Remix, etc.) — SSR/SSG tradeoffs, hydration pitfalls, and a real design-system sensibility
- Comfort building on **AWS or an equivalent cloud**, including serverless compute, IAM, and observability
- Solid grasp of **NoSQL data modeling** — you can defend a key/index choice, sketch the access patterns it supports, and explain when to reach for a search index instead
AI-Assisted Development
This is not a "uses Copilot for autocomplete" requirement. We expect fluency with agentic coding tools as a primary part of the workflow:
- Daily, hands-on use of **Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent** agentic coding environments on production codebases — not just toy projects
- Comfort authoring and refining **custom skills, agents, slash commands, hooks, and MCP servers** (or the equivalent in your tool of choice) to encode team conventions
- Ability to **prompt for architecture and review**, not just code generation — getting useful work out of a sub-agent for security review, schema design, or refactoring
- A point of view on **where AI helps and where it hurts** — when to delegate to a sub-agent, when to drive yourself, and how to keep the human in the loop on consequential decisions
- Discipline around **verifying AI output** — reading the diff, running the code, checking the references, not shipping plausible-looking nonsense
If you've shipped internal tooling to make your team's AI workflow faster or safer, lead with that in your application.
Nice To Have
- Experience with reverse logistics, supply chain, warehouse management, or RFID systems
- Multi-tenant SaaS, partner-scoped data, or role-based access control at scale
- Past work on integrations with commerce, payments, or shipping providers
- E2E testing discipline on real user flows
- Past work in early-stage startups where the company outgrew the original architecture and you helped re-platform without stopping the train
How You Work
- You write clearly. PR descriptions, design docs, and Slack threads are part of the job, and you take them seriously
- You read code before changing it, and you change as little as the task requires
- You push back on scope creep and premature abstraction, but you also know when the third instance is the right time to extract
- You care about the operational reality of what you ship — alerts, runbooks, cost — not just whether the feature works on a happy path
- You give and receive direct feedback without drama
Why SuperCircle
We’re not just solving for waste – we’re creating value from it. SuperCircle is trusted by leading brands and built to scale textile recovery through data, automation, and deep supply chain integration. As part of our team, you’ll gain visibility, ownership, and the chance to define how circularity becomes standard across retail. If you're ready to make an impact that spans P&L and planet, let's talk.
