Job Overview
The Investment Data team develops technological solutions that power Arrowstreet Capital’s investment services and operations. Our mission is to automate complex business processes, improve the quality and accessibility of investment data, and build resilient systems that are essential to the firm’s ability to deliver sustained alpha and meet its fiduciary obligations.
We are seeking a versatile software engineer with strong technical fundamentals, good problem-solving skills, and an ability to take ideas from early exploration through to production. This role is well suited for someone who is curious, enjoys learning new technologies, and is comfortable working across different parts of the technology stack.
Because our team leverages common platforms and shared capabilities developed across the broader Investment Technologies organization, success in this role also requires strong collaboration, clear communication, and the ability to work effectively across teams.
Responsibilities
Partner with business and technology stakeholders to understand requirements and contribute to solution design for evolving problems.
Evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and approaches with guidance from senior team members.
Build proof-of-concepts and pilot implementations to test ideas and support decision-making.
Help translate prototypes into production-ready systems with appropriate testing, monitoring, and reliability practices.
Develop and maintain software solutions that support investment data workflows and applications.
Contribute across multiple parts of the stack, including backend services, data pipelines, APIs, and cloud-based deployments.
Support modernization efforts by helping adopt cloud-native and platform-driven approaches where appropriate.
Improve system performance, reliability, and maintainability through code and process enhancements.
Make thoughtful tradeoffs with support from more experienced engineers across speed, complexity, and scalability.
Contribute to technical design discussions and follow established engineering patterns and best practices.
Collaborate with partner teams to integrate shared platforms into business-facing solutions.
Participate in production support and contribute to resolving issues while improving long-term system stability.
Qualifications
Experience building and supporting software systems in production environments.
Ability to learn new technologies and apply them to solve problems with guidance when needed.
Proficiency in at least one modern programming language; Python experience is helpful but not required.
Experience building prototypes or contributing to early-stage solutions that were delivered to production.
Understanding of software design principles and ability to contribute to system design discussions.
Exposure to cloud platforms and modern development practices (e.g., CI/CD, containers). AWS experience is a plus.
Experience with APIs, SQL, and data processing concepts.
Solid debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in environments with evolving requirements and some ambiguity.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Demonstrated ownership and a willingness to learn and grow.
Experience in financial services or data-intensive environments is a plus, but not required.

What We Do
Arrowstreet Capital is a Boston-based investment manager that provides global and international equity investment strategies and fund products to institutional investors such as pension plans, endowments, foundations, and registered/unregistered commingled investment funds. We offer a select range of global equity investment strategies managed as long-only, alpha extension and long/short utilizing a broad range of instruments, including swaps and futures. Our investment process utilizes quantitative methods that focus on identifying and incorporating investment signals into our proprietary return, risk and transaction cost models. Our investment approach involves creating and investing in diversified equity portfolios. We utilize a structured investment process that attempts to add value relative to a client specific benchmark. This involves identifying opportunities across companies, sectors and countries by evaluating a diverse set of fundamental and market-based predictive factors. Portfolios are constructed through the use of a mean variance optimizer and proprietary risk and transaction cost models.
