The Senior Software Engineer advances the mission of Sight & Sound by leading technical solution planning, establishing architecture standards and engineering best practices, and coaching team members to grow in technical ownership. This role works closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to translate business needs into well-structured, maintainable, and scalable solutions, partnering across the organization to ensure systems are reliable, secure, and built to last.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead technical solution planning and implementation design for business-critical software systems, enhancements, integrations, and cross-team initiatives.
- Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot software solutions while serving as a hands-on technical resource to the development team.
- Review code, lead technical design discussions, and promote quality, maintainability, scalability, and business value.
- Establish and reinforce application architecture standards, design patterns, engineering best practices, and responsible use of development and AI-assisted tools.
- Document technical designs, architecture decisions, and system considerations to support maintainability, knowledge sharing, and long-term continuity.
- Guide technical decisions related to integrations, data pipelines, identity management, compliance, data retention, and secure handling of sensitive information.
- Mentor developers and coach team members to grow in technical ownership and effective problem-solving.
- Partner with infrastructure and platform teams to support application reliability, security, monitoring, deployment readiness, operational support, and cost-effective cloud usage.
- Partner with the Software Development Manager and senior team members on sprint planning, prioritization, and technical sequencing of work.
- Provide technical review and oversight of contractor and vendor work to ensure alignment with internal standards.
Prerequisites:
- Strong software engineering experience using technologies such as TypeScript, Java, SQL, Angular, Spring Boot, HTML, and CSS.
- Experience translating business needs into scalable technical solutions and evaluating tradeoffs, system impacts, and long-term maintainability.
- Demonstrated sound judgment, including knowing when to make decisions independently and when to seek collaboration or escalation.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, engineering best practices, and code quality principles.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across applications, integrations, relational databases, and data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric.
- Working knowledge of identity management, data compliance, data retention, and secure handling of PCI/PII information.
- Working knowledge of cloud environments and DevOps practices, including CI/CD, monitoring, deployment, operational support, and cost-conscious use of cloud resources.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with developers, business stakeholders, leadership, contractors, and vendors.
- Ability to mentor and provide constructive feedback while encouraging technical ownership and sound engineering judgment.
