Role objective and key accountabilities:

The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and delivering reliable, secure, and scalable software systems that support Vox Solutions’ telecom firewall products and services. In addition to delivering high-quality software, the Senior Software Engineer provides technical leadership through architecture definition, mentoring, and process improvement, ensuring the team consistently meets engineering standards and delivery expectations.

Backend and frontend engineers, DevOps/Infrastructure, Analytics team, QA/Testing, Product Management

Core Responsibilities

Software Engineering & Delivery

• Analyse complex requirements and define technical approaches aligned with system architecture

• Design and implement backend services, APIs, and distributed systems that meet performance and reliability expectations

• Lead delivery of complex, multi-sprint initiatives from design through deployment

• Ensure software is secure, maintainable, testable, and aligned with engineering standards

• Review and validate technical designs to ensure alignment with long-term platform goals

• Provide accurate effort estimates and manage technical risks during implementation

Architecture & Technical Leadership

• Define architectural patterns, coding standards, and best practices for team-wide adoption

• Lead design reviews and make informed architectural decisions

• Ensure systems are designed for scalability, resilience, and maintainability

• Guide engineers in applying appropriate design patterns and engineering principles

• Contribute to long-term platform evolution and technical strategy

Quality, Reliability & Security

• Ensure all delivered systems meet defined reliability, performance, and security standards

• Drive adoption of testing, code quality, and review practices across the team

• Lead root cause analysis for production incidents and implement preventative improvements

• Support definition of monitoring, observability, and alerting approaches

• Promote secure coding practices and risk awareness

Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing

• Mentor software engineers, supporting skill development and technical growth

• Provide constructive feedback through code reviews and design discussions

• Support onboarding of new engineers and contribute to internal technical documentation

• Encourage knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the team

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with Product and Project teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions

• Communicate technical trade-offs and risks clearly to stakeholders

• Participate actively in agile processes and delivery planning

• Support cross-team coordination to ensure integrated system delivery

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Evaluate new technologies and approaches that may improve product capabilities or team efficiency

• Contribute to research, prototyping, and AI-assisted development initiatives

• Drive improvements in engineering processes, tools, and standards

• Encourage data-driven decisions for performance and scalability enhancements

Telecom Domain Expertise

• Guide implementation of telecom protocol features and integrations

• Ensure solutions align with industry standards and operator expectations

• Support investigation of telecom-related issues and architectural impacts

• Maintain awareness of evolving telecom technologies and security considerations

Skills & Competencies

Core Engineering Skills

• Strong understanding of software architecture and system design

• Expertise in backend development and API design

• Strong knowledge of databases, distributed systems, and performance optimisation

• Experience working in Linux environments and cloud-native systems

• Familiarity with CI/CD, containerisation, and deployment automation

Experience & Education

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)

• Minimum 3 years in a senior or equivalent engineering role

• 5+ years of professional software development experience preferred

• Experience working in agile software delivery environments
