We are looking for a new colleague to join our Routing Services team in the Cloud Networking Products division. We own the host routing software stack, overlay network and the networking configurations that enable our customers to run massive computing workloads in over 30 Akamai Cloud data centers.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Building the routing overlay and derivative products.
• Designing, implementing, reviewing, documenting, and testing high quality code and networking configurations in close collaboration with your team.
• Working closely with peers, and coordinating with teams globally as part of building new features, dealing with bugs or driving consensus on a technical solution.

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have experience with mainstream programming languages, such as Go or C/C++.
• Have a strong familiarity with L3 networking: BGP, dynamic routing, and also experience with tunneling (if you know EVPN, VxLAN or SRv6, that is amazing).
• Have very good understanding of Linux networking internals.
• Have hands-on experience with containerization (e.g., Docker) and virtualization.
• Have hands-on experience with a large scale distributed systems and architecture.
• Have good communication skills, and experience in communicating with leadership and non-developer stakeholders.
• Be able to work productively with team members to identify and resolve issues in a collaborative manner.
• Be experienced in technical design, product specifications reviews, projects and backlog planning.
   

Having experience with the following is a nice-to-have:

• Open source routing daemon suites, such as FRR or gobgp, or with other BGP speakers.
• Cloud Computing - either as a user or an engineer.
• Observability using Prometheus, Grafana
• Infrastructure as Code: Ansible, Terraform 
• Containerlab and CI/CD setups like Jenkins
• Providing guidance and mentoring to other developers or testers.
