As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) focusing on backend automation at CMT, you will be instrumental in ensuring the quality and scalability of our backend systems, services, and APIs. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated test frameworks that validate complex backend processes, data flows, and distributed systems. This role will require close collaboration with backend engineers, product teams, and other stakeholders to create and execute thorough test strategies that drive confidence in CMT’s platform

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement automated testing frameworks for backend services (APIs, databases, microservices)
  • Develop and maintain automated tests for backend functionality in cloud environments
  • Collaborate with engineers to create effective test plans based on architecture and requirements
  • Lead API, integration, and performance testing efforts for backend processes
  • Troubleshoot backend issues
  • Integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines
  • Define quality standards and key metrics for backend systems with cross-functional teams
  • Write tests to ensure coverage of edge cases, performance issues, and failure scenarios
  • Optimize test execution and stability across distributed systems
  • Mentor junior engineers on backend automation best practices
  • Participate in code and architecture reviews to ensure software quality
  • Manage test environments and collaborate with DevOps for reliable deployments
  • Stay updated on backend testing trends and improve automation strategies
  • Complete any additional tasks as they arise

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years of experience in software testing, with at least 4 years focused on backend automation testing
  • Proficiency in programming languages for test development (Python preferred)
  • Expertise in designing and developing automated testing frameworks for backend services, including RESTful APIs, microservices, and data pipelines
  • Extensive experience with API testing tools such:
    • Pytest, REST Assured, Postman.
  • Comfortable to work with cloud services, specifically AWS:
    • EC2, ECS, S3, Lambda, SNS, SQS, RDS (Postgres), DynamoDB, StepFunctions, SecretsManager
  • Knowledgeable of containerization technologies (specifically Docker)
  • Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, or similar, and integrating tests into the deployment process
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and debug complex backend issues, working with logs, monitoring tools, and profiling techniques
  • Ability to work independently and lead initiatives related to backend test automation across teams
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and contribute to technical discussions.
