About the role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Python/Django Specialist) to help advance Sunco’s edge as an AI-native, software-defined company. This role carries broad ownership, responsibility, and impact. You will work on a backend-heavy Django monolith that powers core business operations, collaborating closely with product, engineering, and leadership to build reliable, scalable, and forward-looking systems.
This is a full-time international position based in Brazil.
What you'll do
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, high-quality software systems
- Own the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through deployment and support
- Build and maintain robust backend services, APIs, and data models using best practices
- Make and guide architectural decisions with a focus on performance, reliability, security, and maintainability
- Write, review, test, and optimize production-ready code for complex systems
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers through reviews and collaboration
- Partner cross-functionally with product, design, DevOps, and business teams to deliver solutions
- Stay current with emerging technologies and contribute thoughtfully to AI, automation, and system improvements
Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional experience as a Python/Django engineer
- Deep, hands-on expertise with Python and Django in production environments
- Strong background in backend-heavy full stack development
- Proven experience with:
- API design and implementation
- Data modeling and database optimization
- Performance tuning and system reliability
- Testing strategies and best practices
- Application security
- Experience working with AWS and/or GCP
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work autonomously
Additional Requirements
- Availability to work 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM BRT
- Reliable internet access and a private remote workstation

Compensation: $22–$38 USD per hour, with final compensation determined based on experience
