About the Role & Team
Would you like to be a part of a team that contributes to every stage of the Disney attraction life cycle, from Blue Sky to Sustainment? As a Sr Software Engineer on the Modeling, Simulation, and Training Tools (MST) team, you will build software tools that are used to provide detailed engineering simulation and analysis services internationally for Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI), Park Operations Line of Business, Transportation, Engineering Services, Entertainment, and other Global Engineering & Technology partners.
These services include: systems level simulations of our rides and attractions; Software-In-the-Loop (SIL) or Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) software design/testing platforms; multi-agent simulations; training simulations; large scale transportation simulations; statistical analyses; and development of signal processing and optimization algorithms.
This is a Project Hire position with no guarantee of permanent placement with an estimated end date of 7/18/2026.
You will report to the Manager-Systems Engineering.
What You Will Do
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be both a developer and a user of our suite of in-house engineering tools. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, in a hybrid work environment.
On any given day, you might:

  • Write code for simulation applications for use by internal engineering and creative partners.
  • Partner with Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) Creative, WDI Ride, Industrial Engineering, and Global Engineering & Technology partners to identify requirements and use cases for new applications of our tools.
  • Write detailed documentation for software, both for developers and users.
  • Assist users with troubleshooting and resolving bugs in deployed software and models.
  • Provide computer hardware and software expertise to multi-disciplinary team to influence purchasing decisions and system designs.
  • Analyze results from simulations and recommend improvements to the system design to help improve efficiency and reach the projects goals.
  • Develop and review detailed mechanical and system-level simulations using various simulation software and software development environments.
  • Manage simulation projects, creating and maintaining the schedule, budget, and overall design plan for the project.
  • Be responsible for delegating work to co-workers and ensuring their productivity on a project.
  • Proven time management skills including the ability to support multiple projects simultaneously
  • Review detailed components and assemblies, make supporting analyses, define system requirements, and work with other disciplines to build, test, install, and commission attraction SILs/HILs.


Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in programming, including C#
  • Proficiency in object-oriented design principles.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and languages, and apply them to solve engineering problems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose with little notice, while maintaining consistency with architectures in place.
  • Ability to prioritize and switch between different roles within this position, while maintaining a high standard of performance.
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule.
  • Strong written, verbal communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proven problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Proficiency using engineering software and software development environments (e.g., Visual Studio)
  • Practice with Agile software development practices, including scrum, sprint planning, retrospectives, etc.
  • Proficiency using source control tools such as Git, and continuous integration tools such as GitLab CI or similar
  • Working knowledge of industrial automation equipment


Preferred Qualifications
It would be great if you are familiar with any of the following:

  • Engineering within the entertainment industry, Ride and Show Control Systems, Programming and troubleshooting PLC hardware
  • Third-party analysis software such as MathWorks: MatLab, Simulink, Stateflow; Wireshark; Rockwell Automation: Studio 5000
  • Scripting languages including Python
  • Development using game engines such as Unity3D or Unreal
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols and/or protocol design
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and translate multiple software languages (Python, C/C++, C#, Ladder Logic, Structured Text).
  • Familiarity with Atlassian Tools such as Jira & Confluence.
  • Experience in monitoring and data visualization with Splunk.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics/wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings.
  • Understanding of controls topics, including state machines, PID, motion control.


Education
You must have a proven Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent from ABET certified curriculum.
Additionally, it is preferred that you hold a proven post-graduate engineering degree.
