Get to Know the Team

Join the Consumer Experience (CX) Engineering team at Grab. We're focused on enhancing consumer interaction by working on essential elements like the user experience, content discovery, and user lifecycle including growth, engagement, and loyalty. Our mission is to connect consumers to Grab's marketplace, helping them discover and access services and partners.

Get to Know the Role 

Your main responsibility will be to deliver high-quality services that support user journeys in the Grab app, starting from the login screen to key app interfaces. Our services are prime entry points with millions of visitors daily in 8 countries. Based at the Grab One North office, you'll collaborate closely with the Senior Software Engineering Manager.

You will report to the Senior Software Engineering Manager, and you will be based fully on-site in our Grab One North office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

  • You will design and develop solutions using Go language to enhance the availability, scalability, and efficiency of Grab's services.
  • You will collaborate with the engineering team to innovate on design and architecture focused on scale and performance.
  • You will conduct code and design reviews to maintain high development standards.
  • You will engage in service capacity planning and optimize software performance.
  • You will work with product and experience teams to define and prototype feature specifications.
  • You will team up with the infrastructure department to build and scale backend services and investigate root causes of issues.
  • You will design, build, analyze, and troubleshoot large-scale systems.
  • You will debug and resolve production incidents during on-call shifts.
  • You will participate in interview processes to help recruit top industry talent.
  • You will provide technical guidance and mentorship to peers.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

  • Backend Skills
    • At least 8 years experience in software engineering with full stack web and distributed systems experience.
    • Proficient in Golang, including core syntax, concurrency, and optimization techniques.
    • Strong grasp of algorithms, data structures, and system design.
    • Experience with distributed systems, streaming services, and queuing models.
    • Mastery of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, ScyllaDB).
    • Experience with site reliability including monitoring, capacity planning, and overseeing large-scale web services.
    • Familiar with networking protocols and system internals.
    • Ability to mentor junior developers and enforce coding standards.
  • Frontend Skills (Bonus)
    • Experience in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript.
    • Knowledge in frameworks like React, Vue.js, and Svelte.
    • Understanding of state management (e.g., Redux), progressive web apps, responsive design, and accessibility.
  • Full Stack & DevOps
    • Experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and real-time data exchanges.
    • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

About our Technology Stack

Our core services use Golang, integrated with Redis, MySQL, DynamoDB, Kafka, and Elasticsearch for data management. Services are orchestrated using Kubernetes and run on AWS cloud infrastructure. Our mobile apps support both iOS and Android platforms with a focus on native languages like Swift and Kotlin, while frontend technologies include Rails, HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. GitLab and complementary tools like Jenkins and DataDog support our release pipeline.
