Your Role

As the Senior Software Engineer - E-Commerce at O Positiv, you will drive the evolution of our digital consumer experience. Reporting directly to our Technical Lead, you will work closely with Marketing, Design, and Operations teams to develop, manage, and optimize the technical architecture of our e-commerce platform. This role requires a strong technical leader skilled at architecting and implementing solutions end-to-end, highly proficient in e-commerce headless technologies, and capable of independently navigating complex problems. You will focus on mastering and evolving our newly implemented Shopify Hydrogen architecture, helping to continuously improve the customer experience in alignment with our business goals.

Key Qualities: We are looking for a highly autonomous and experienced engineer, and a proficient problem solver who is comfortable working independently and effectively collaborating across functions. Candidates should be strong communicators with all types of stakeholders: from having precise and structured technical communication, to elevating problems and summarizing issues to engage with business leaders confidently. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Architect and execute the end-to-end development of key features for our e-commerce application, setting architectural standards and best practices for the team.
  • Master and evolve our Shopify Hydrogen architecture, driving performance and customer experience optimizations.
  • Lead technical migrations and other high-impact projects to introduce innovative features and capabilities to our platform.
  • Deliver high-quality, scalable React, TypeScript, and SASS code within a component-based architecture, ensuring compatibility across modern browsers.
  • Partner closely with our design team to translate visual mockups into pixel-perfect, responsive, and functional components.
  • Perform thorough quality assurance to ensure mobile responsiveness, scalability, and an exceptional customer experience across all devices.
  • Act as a technical thought leader to business stakeholders, surfacing opportunities, clarifying technical constraints, and communicating trade-offs in a way that informs decision-making.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance through code reviews, paired programming, and functional QA.
  • Continuously identify areas for improvement in the codebase, proposing solutions to increase maintainability, scalability, and performance.
  • Research and integrate new third-party tools and technologies to enhance our tech stack.
  • Design and develop internal tools to improve the development workflow for all engineers.
  • Lead complex technical projects from inception to completion, demonstrating autonomy and problem-solving skills.
  • Manage priorities across multiple tasks with different levels of importance and deadlines

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience:
    • Be a Senior Software Engineer with a CS degree and 5+ years of engineering experience in e-commerce or a related field/stack, or 8+ years of experience without a CS degree
    • Expertise with TypeScript, React, Remix framework and CSS/SASS (or an equivalent CSS preprocessor).
    • Experience architecting and building large-scale, public-facing web applications end-to-end.
    • Proficiency with Shopify Hydrogen and Shopify storefront APIs (GraphQL preferred).
    • Knowledge of A/B testing and SEO, including optimizing page speed and meeting Core Web Vitals standards.
    • Experience with server-side languages and frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Ruby).
    • Experience in code reviews and coaching other developers through code feedback.
    • Strong Git skills and familiarity with Webpack for optimized build management.
  • Interpersonal:
    • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to develop creative solutions independently.
    • Skilled in communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Team player with leadership qualities, including the ability to mentor and support fellow engineers.
    • Excellent attention to detail in both design and functionality.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a dynamic startup environment.
  • Additional Preferred Experience and Skills:
    • Experience in developing in AWS or similar environments is a plus.
    • Experience in setting up and managing Docker is a plus.
    • Experience in Test-driven development environments is a plus.

Hours and Compensation
The anticipated base compensation range for this role will be $160,000 - $185,000. Compensation and title will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and local market rates.

  • Position will be based out of Santa Monica, Los Angeles - in person (Mon-Thurs in office/Friday remote)
