The Senior Software Engineer - Data Modeling will work within Research Systems as part of the Data Models, Forecast Platform team, and be focused on the implementation of our next generation platform as part of a modern research data platform.  Working closely with stakeholders in the quantitative research team, this person will help drive technical innovation and scalable design as we build high-quality solutions.   Scaling and performance are the key criteria for these systems, but modularity and maintainability are of equal focus.

The expectation of the role is to be hands-on, implementing features and capabilities of the next generation system. They will also be part of mentoring and guiding junior members of the team.  In addition, they will also be part of on-call support rotations for our Research stakeholders as we maintain our existing applications.

To succeed in this role, they will need to have a passion for designing robust architectures at large scale, managing complex dependencies, and validating system migrations.  We maintain a friendly, team-oriented environment and place a high value on professionalism, attitude and initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in building a data and HPC platform that can meet the scalability and processing needs of Research and Research Systems

  • Participate in deep architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment, scale, security, cost effectiveness and high availability

  • Implement features and capabilities of our next generation system, accelerating the deployment time of solutions within a collaborative development environment.

  • Achieve high quality metrics through automated testing, robust operational tooling and reliable designs

  • Lead/participate in code reviews, and contribute actively during pair programming sessions aimed at enhancing overall quality of delivered artifacts

  • Participate in support rotations of our production systems for our Research stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline; at least 5 years of prior experience, financial services exposure is a plus

  • Proven record of delivering solutions that are used in a production environment at scale, with high degrees of parallelism, accuracy and uptime requirements

  • Proven record of building high-performance cloud native solutions on public cloud (AWS preferred)

  • Experience with container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, Helm

  • Experience working with data lakes, data warehousing, and/or database systems, including data frameworks like Trino, Spark, Pandas/Polars, Iceberg, etc

  • Ability to write elegant code, and comfortable with picking up new technologies independently

  • 3+ years of experience building data centric applications in Python

  • Comfortable working with existing SQL and C# codebases

  • Experience leading projects or teams is a plus

  • Experience with Helm and Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform preferred) is a plus

The base salary range for this position is $135,000 - $325,000 per year.
