As a Software Engineer for Lyft Media – you will work on one of Lyft’s newest lines of business focused on building the world’s largest transportation media network. Our goal is to deliver premium advertising solutions that empower brands and provide unparalleled value to our users, while working closely with client engineers to ensure seamless integration and execution of ad offerings. For this role, we are seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance systems for our ad-serving platform. You’ll collaborate closely with client engineers to build premium publisher ad offerings that are seamlessly integrated into our rideshare ecosystem. Your work will directly impact our ability to monetize at scale while maintaining the integrity and quality of the rider and driver experience.

  • Build scalable, high-performance backend systems for real-time ad serving, campaign management, and reporting.
  • Partner closely with client engineers to develop APIs, SDKs, and services that enable smooth integration of ads into our rider and driver applications.
  • Build systems to support high-value ad formats and placements tailored to premium advertisers, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience.
  • Develop robust APIs and services that connect our ad platform with internal and third-party systems.
  • Establish best practices for testing, observability, and monitoring to ensure system robustness and uptime.
  • Help define the roadmap and architecture based on technology and business needs
  • Work with product managers, client engineers, and sales teams to understand advertiser needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Lead projects from idea to positive execution
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge 
  • Proactively participate in resolving ongoing incidents 
  • Share your knowledge by giving brown bags, tech talks, and evangelizing appropriate tech and engineering best practices

Experience:

  • BSc/MSc in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, related field or relevant work experience
  • 5+ years of engineering experience working in any of these stacks: Python, GO, Java, etc.
  • Proven experience building distributed systems and microservices at scale.
  • Experience working with frontend or client engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions, including APIs or SDKs.
  • Experience with premium ad formats (e.g., video, rich media, native ads) and their technical requirements. Familiarity with mobile ad serving and in-app monetization strategies is a plus
  • Experience with large-scale data processing, streaming systems (e.g., Kafka), and data storage solutions is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for tackling complex challenges.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with experience working in cross-functional teams.

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year. #Hybrid

The expected range of pay for this position in the New York City area is $148,000 - $185,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
