Niantic's Quality Engineering Team is seeking a Software Engineer in Test (SDET) to develop test automation tools and infrastructure for Pokémon Go! Niantic Engineering leads the advancement of AR and other immersive technologies while creating engaging apps for a user base in the billions. Responsibilities include implementing end-to-end test plans, ensuring that all objectives are met, and implementing test automation solutions - both the infrastructure and the tests themselves. You will be responsible for working closely with other Quality Engineering (QE) team members, our QE Director, TPMs, Developers, and our production team to deliver high-quality experiences to our customers and best-in-class technology test solutions for our platform test automation.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, maintain and extend scalable modular test automation frameworks for Pokémon Go
- Leverage automation frameworks to build end to end test automation and other testing tools which enable fast creation of Pokémon Go, mobile application and API and Client level automated tests.
- Collaborate with other SWEs, SDETs, QEs, developers, product managers, and other departments to ensure code and automated systems meet internal standards
- Integrate test automation into the CI deployment pipeline
- Mentor Junior SDETs by coaching, mentoring and sharing knowledge
- Build and lead testing estimates, schedules, timelines, bug analytics/metrics, mitigation plans, and lead vendor testers.
- Drive the development and execution of test specs, test cases, and suites for new features.
- Participate in the review of QE and Engineering procedures and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate with multi-functional team members and collaborators to cultivate strong working relationships with project team members, including regular and reliable attendance and participation in meetings.
- Required in-office 2 days on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Qualifications
- BS degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related engineering fields, with a minimum of three years automation development experience.
- Strong experience in C#, Python or Java.
- Experience with build systems such as GitLab, Gradle and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong experience building efficient and scalable API/Libraries/Services.
- Ability to think about long-term impact and identify risks.
- Experience working with highly-scalable systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid environment and handle stress appropriately and/or ability to solve practical problems and be sufficiently adaptable to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice.
- Experience working on multi-functional teams with ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications, including synchronous interactions with others.
- Proven understanding of QE methodology, tools and prior experience in testing Augmented Reality features.
- Experience building test automation within a gaming studio environment.
Plus If...
- Experience using mobile or API test automation frameworks (Appium, Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, and other automation tools) to write end to end scenario based automated tests.
- Working experience with Unity.
- Experience with end-to-end game development and quality assurance processes.
- Experience leading, building, and crafting test strategies for mobile apps and consumer-facing products.
The total compensation package for this position includes a new hire offer base salary range of $161,600.00 - $179,600.00 + bonus + equity + benefits.
Individual pay within this salary range is determined by work location and additional factors, including assessed job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
