Ellipsis Health is creating cutting-edge AI/ML products that solve healthcare staffing challenges and administrative burdens using conversational AI and our patented voice biomarker technology—helping deliver better healthcare for everyone.

We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test with strong experience in both functional testing and test automation for commercial-grade data products leveraging Machine Learning and GenAI. This role requires a hands-on engineer who can validate complex data workflows end-to-end while also building scalable automation to improve coverage and efficiency.

You will collaborate closely with ML, Data, and Engineering teams to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our healthcare platform, built using Databricks, DBT, PostgreSQL.
Ellipsis Health is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, but we are open to remote candidates within the United States.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform both manual (functional) testing and automation for data pipelines, APIs, and AI-driven workflows

  • Understand business logic using SQL and scripting (e.g., Python) to design comprehensive test scenarios

  • Design, develop, and execute functional test plans, test cases, and test scripts for ETL pipelines, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and completeness

  • Build and maintain automation frameworks for ETL, API, and workflow testing to improve coverage and efficiency

  • Validate data transformations, mappings, and data loads across all stages of the ETL lifecycle

  • Perform data validation and reconciliation between source systems, staging layers, and target data stores

  • Conduct manual validation for critical workflows and edge cases where automation is not sufficient

  • Identify, document, and track defects; collaborate closely with engineering teams to resolve issues

  • Conduct root cause analysis for data discrepancies and contribute to quality metrics and reporting

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, providing QA input during sprint planning, grooming, and retrospectives

  • Lead functional validation efforts and support test environment setup for data pipelines and workflows

  • Work with cross-functional teams and external partners to validate integrations with healthcare data platforms

  • Support production releases, hotfix validation, and post-deployment verification, ensuring minimal impact to customers

  • Collaborate with Implementation/Onboarding teams to triage production data issues and improve test coverage

  • Validate healthcare-specific data models for compliance with regulatory and business requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in SDET or QA roles with a strong mix of functional testing and automation

  • Strong understanding of ETL testing, data validation, and data quality assurance practices

  • Proficiency in SQL for data validation, reconciliation, and test design

  • Hands-on experience with Databricks, Apache Spark, or similar data platforms

  • Experience with DAG/workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow or Databricks Workflows

  • Experience building and maintaining test automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium)

  • Experience with API testing tools such as Postman, RestAssured, or similar

  • Strong knowledge of QA methodologies, test design techniques, and defect tracking processes

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

  • Experience testing systems that incorporate Machine Learning models, Speech-to-Text, or Text-to-Speech systems

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Experience creating test plans, test strategies, and quality processes for data/ETL releases

  • Basic understanding of LLMs and AI-driven features, including how to test them effectively

Nice to Have:
  • Experience in healthcare or regulated environments, especially with ETL workflows

  • Knowledge of healthcare data standards such as HIPAA, HL7, or FHIR

  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL and database testing for reporting and ETL validation

  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery

  • Exposure to monitoring and logging tools like Splunk, Datadog, or similar

  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker for validating reporting layers

  • Experience using scripting (e.g., Python, Shell) for automation and data validation

  • Familiarity with testing considerations for LLMs and GenAI systems

What We Do

Ellipsis Health was founded with the belief that a person’s mental health should have the same priority as one’s physical health. The company saw an opportunity to connect the dots between the two - giving voice to a new standard of mental health care. By harnessing the unique power of the human voice as a biomarker for mental wellbeing, along with machine learning and AI, Ellipsis Health has established the first vital sign for mental health. Its technology identifies, measures, and monitors the severity of stress, anxiety, and depression at scale by analyzing a short sample of natural speech to create an objective and scalable clinical decision support tool. Through partnerships with providers, payers, employers and digital health companies, Ellipsis Health is working to positively impact the quality of care, shorten the time to diagnosis, drive workflow efficiencies, reduce costs and improve patient outcomes.
