Senior Software Developer

Octane Systems develops enterprise software solutions for the fuel and energy industry across New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.

Our platform connects ERP, mobile applications, APIs, fuel industry systems, and third-party integrations to help customers run critical business operations.

We're looking for a Senior Software Developer who combines hands-on development with mentoring, technical guidance, and strong software design capability.

This is a senior hands-on development role with responsibility for mentoring, technical guidance, and contributing to the continuous improvement of Octane's engineering practices.

You'll work across our ERP platform, integrations, APIs, mobile applications, and modern web solutions while helping strengthen engineering standards, implementation quality, and technical delivery.

You will:

• Design and develop high-quality software solutions.
• Lead detailed technical design and implementation decisions, working with the Solution Architect on significant architectural decisions.
• Mentor developers through technical guidance, code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to backlog refinement by helping decompose approved Features into clear, estimable, development-ready PBIs.
• Identify technical dependencies, delivery risks, and opportunities to improve maintainability.
• Support sprint planning and help the team establish realistic technical delivery commitments.
• Promote practical engineering standards, secure development practices, and maintainable solutions.
• Provide technical input into product and technology decisions.
• Help shape how AI-assisted development is adopted across the business.

Core Requirements

• 8+ years of commercial software development experience.
• Strong C# and .NET expertise.
• Advanced SQL and database design skills.
• Strong experience in software design, technical design, and contributing to solution architecture.
• Strong API and integration development experience.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
• Experience developing, deploying, or supporting software in a cloud environment.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring other developers.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Proficiency using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, Claude, or equivalent.

Desirable Experience

• ASP.NET MVC and modern web development.
• .NET MAUI or mobile development.
• Azure services and infrastructure.
• ERP, logistics, transport, or fuel industry systems.
• AI agents, workflow automation, or machine learning technologies
• Agile delivery, backlog refinement, and sprint planning.
