About the Job
As a Senior Software Architect for Keeper’s Browser Extension team, you will define and guide the architecture of secure browser-based experiences across Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and other supported platforms.
This is a highly hands-on technical leadership role focused on application architecture, browser extension frameworks, security, performance and cross-platform reliability. You will work closely with Engineering, Product, Security, QA and UX teams to solve complex technical challenges, establish scalable design patterns and guide the long-term evolution of Keeper’s browser platform. You will remain close to the code while providing architectural direction across the team, ensuring that new capabilities are secure, maintainable and aligned with Keeper’s zero-knowledge security model.
Responsibilities:
- Define and drive the technical architecture and long-term direction of Keeper’s browser extension platform
- Lead architectural design for complex browser-based features, shared services and cross-platform capabilities
- Design scalable solutions using JavaScript, TypeScript and modern web application technologies
- Guide architecture across Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and other supported browser environments
- Establish patterns for secure communication between browser extension components, web applications, backend services and native integrations
- Lead technical decisions involving extension lifecycle, background services, content scripts, messaging, storage and browser APIs
- Ensure architectural decisions align with Keeper’s zero-knowledge and zero-trust security principles
- Identify and address performance, memory, reliability and scalability challenges across browser environments
- Guide migration and modernization initiatives as browser extension standards and platform capabilities evolve
- Partner with Product and UX teams to translate complex product requirements into scalable technical designs
- Collaborate with Security teams on threat modeling, secure design and remediation of security-sensitive browser functionality
- Lead architecture reviews, design reviews and technical standards across the Browser Extension engineering team
- Mentor senior engineers and help raise engineering quality, architecture discipline and technical decision-making across the team
- Work closely with adjacent Vault, Desktop, Mobile and backend teams where functionality or architecture overlaps
- Use AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot or similar platforms to improve architecture research, prototyping, debugging, code analysis, documentation and engineering efficiency
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with true full-stack development expertise spanning databases, backend services, APIs, infrastructure and modern user interfaces
- Demonstrated 0-to-1 architecture experience designing and delivering complex software systems from initial concept through production
- Strong knowledge of software architecture and object-oriented design patterns, including common Gang of Four design patterns
- Deep understanding of performance engineering, including profiling, load testing, bottleneck analysis and real-time debugging across the full application stack
- Experience designing highly available, scalable systems and evaluating tradeoffs between centralized and decentralized architectures
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, serverless architectures and event-driven application design
- Experience with cloud-native technologies and platforms, including AWS, Lambda, Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong understanding of database architecture and data modeling across transactional systems, sharded or horizontally scaled databases and analytical or warehouse platforms
- Experience designing secure authentication, authorization and identity architectures, including IAM, CIEM and least-privilege access concepts
- Strong knowledge of web and application security concepts, including CORS, OWASP guidance and secure software development practices
- Experience with static analysis, code quality or application security tooling such as SonarQube, Checkmarx or similar platforms
- Strong understanding of modern software development methodologies, CI/CD practices, automated testing and release engineering
- Demonstrated ability to make sound architectural tradeoffs across performance, security, scalability, reliability, maintainability and delivery speed
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across database, backend, infrastructure, network and UI layers
- Proven ability to lead architecture discussions, influence technical direction and mentor senior engineers without relying on formal people-management authority
- Ability and willingness to use AI-assisted tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot or similar platforms to support architecture research, prototyping, debugging, code analysis and technical documentation
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
