In this role, you'll be responsible for creating solutions to improve automation and efficiency for systems and teams. Expertise in Linux administration, configuration management, and performance tuning is essential. You'll collaborate on deployment, monitoring, and resolving incidents, with a high focus on reliability, scalability, and efficiency through automation and resource optimization.
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Developing and maintaining automated tools and scripts to enhance system reliability, deployment processes, and incident response efficiency.
- Improving system monitoring, analysis and alerting to speed error detection and remediation
- Building automation and tooling to reduce operational toil, improve deployment safety, and accelerate incident response
- Contributing to capacity planning, autoscaling configuration, and workload scheduling for compute infrastructure
- Investigating and analyzing platform components to identify opportunities to enhance stability and performance
- Participating in on-call rotations, guiding restoration and repair of service-impacting issues and providing support and mentorship for other engineers
Do what you love
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
- Have extensive experience with Linux/Unix operating systems and scripting, ideally with Bash, Python and Perl
- Have good attention to detail and excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skill
- Possess ability to work with the minutia of individual system classes as well as the larger strategic viewpoint of the interrelated pieces of the environment
- Be able to work with and coordinate external teams in world-wide geos to maintain environment operational stability
- Show hands-on experience with modern observability stacks and timeseries engines, like Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and Loki

Compensation
Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $121,400 - $218,600/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP). Akamai provides industry-leading benefits including healthcare, 401K savings plan, company holidays, vacation (in the form of PTO), sick time, family friendly benefits including parental leave and an employee assistance program including a focus on mental and financial wellness; Eligibility requirements apply.
Skills Required
- 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
- Advanced experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD)
- Extensive development skills in Python, Go, or Bash
- Experience integrating security, compliance, and quality controls into CI/CD pipelines, including automated testing and artifact management
- Experience using IaC/configuration management tools (SaltStack, Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet)
- Advanced experience in a site reliability or software engineering role working with large-scale distributed systems
- Participation in an on-call rotation and incident response leadership
