Join Qutwo, Europe's private Quantum AI Lab, on our quest to bridge the gap between the classical and the quantum world. We partner with the most advanced and forward-thinking customers, solving fundamental real-world problems side by side.
The best scientists and engineers in the world are drawn to one thing: a problem worthy of their ability. At Qutwo, we have one. We are a European AI lab for the quantum era, co-founded by pioneers behind IQM and Silo AI, with a team spanning MIT, UC Berkeley, Cambridge, and Carnegie Mellon, and backed by the founders of Skype, Hugging Face, Quantinuum, Supercell and many more. We work at the intersection of quantum computing, AI, optimisation, and simulation, where the answers do not yet exist and the work genuinely matters.
We are seeking a Senior Security Engineer. If you are a humble learner, not afraid of the unknown, we encourage you to apply.
Role DescriptionAs Senior Security Engineer, you will be the hands-on owner of security across Qutwo's engineering and infrastructure. You will work closely with our infrastructure and engineering teams to design, build, and run the controls that keep our platforms secure, and you will lead the technical side of our certification and compliance work as the company scales.
Network Security: Design, configure, and maintain firewalls, VPNs, network segmentation, and IDS/IPS.
Host Hardening: Harden Linux systems using SELinux, AppArmor, and secure baseline configurations.
Identity & Access: Implement and maintain AAA, IAM, and access controls across our infrastructure and cloud environments.
Security Monitoring: Deploy and operate SIEM and logging tooling, build detections and alerts, and investigate security events.
Vulnerability Management: Run scanning, patching, and remediation across our infrastructure.
Incident Response: Lead the technical investigation and remediation when security incidents occur, and help build the incident response framework.
Automation: Use infrastructure-as-code and scripting to keep configurations consistent, repeatable, and auditable.
Certification & Compliance: Implement and evidence the technical controls behind certifications such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2, and support gap analyses, audit readiness, and work with auditors. Help ensure we meet GDPR, NIS2, the EU AI Act, and emerging European AI regulations.
Security Governance & Risk: Help shape security policies, standards, and the risk register, and carry out security risk assessments and vendor security reviews.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work alongside our infrastructure, engineering, and IT teams, setting security requirements for what Qutwo builds and the cloud platforms we run on, and making sure they are met.
Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in network security, security operations, or infrastructure security.
Strong practical experience with firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and network segmentation.
Deep Linux knowledge, including hardening with SELinux and/or AppArmor.
Experience deploying and operating SIEM, IAM, and AAA solutions.
Experience securing cloud environments (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
Scripting and automation skills (e.g. Python, Bash) and experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
Experience supporting or delivering formal certification such as ISO 27001 or SOC 2, and a working knowledge of GDPR and European regulatory frameworks.
A methodical, secure-by-design approach and the ability to work closely with infrastructure and engineering teams.
Experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus:
Securing GPU, HPC, or research computing environments.
Kubernetes and container security.
EU AI Act compliance and emerging European AI regulation.
Working in environments with defence or government security requirements.
Skills Required
- Proven experience owning a security and compliance function end to end, from initial policies through accredited and audited operations.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in information security, IT governance, or regulatory compliance.
- Experience leading formal security accreditation processes, including gap analysis, control implementation, and liaison with accrediting bodies.
- Strong knowledge of GDPR and ISO 27001, with the ability to build and operate a compliance program.
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, translate organizational requirements into security roadmaps, and maintain high security standards.
- Experience managing government relations, vendor security reviews, and security and compliance budgets.
- Direct exposure to defense-sector contracting, security clearances, or government security requirements.
- Familiarity with the EU AI Act and emerging European AI regulatory frameworks.
- Hands-on cloud infrastructure security experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Practical knowledge of GPU supercomputing security, model-weight protection, and secure machine learning workloads.
What We Do
Qutwo is a European AI lab focused on creating next-generation AI for a quantum world. The company develops enterprise software and the Qutwo OS, an orchestration layer that bridges classical and quantum computing. By simulating quantum workloads and offering hybrid solutions, Qutwo helps enterprises solve complex optimization and simulation problems and prepare for the transition to full quantum advantage.
