A Brief Overview
Principal contributions are scientific or intellectual, characterized by originality and creativity. May work with the mentorship of an established principal investigator to conduct research in a specific scientific area. Initiates and conducts independent experiments without direct supervision and with minimal guidance from the principal investigator. Develops new experimental procedures and publishes research results. Collaborates and interacts with other researchers within CHOP – RI and at other institutions. Develops new experimental procedures and hypotheses for further investigation. Prepares manuscripts and abstracts for publication. Publishes scientific articles in refereed journals, presents at scientific symposiums. Prepares grant proposals for external funding. Serves as resource person for colleagues and as a mentor for less experienced research personnel. Manages/supervises other research staff or projects and assists with the management of laboratory operations.

About the Laboratory

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Scientist to join Dr. William Peranteau’s laboratory. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and execution of in utero gene-editing experiments utilizing CRISPR-based technologies, adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors, LNP formulation, flow cytometry, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and more to advance our research objectives. This position requires a strong foundation in molecular and cellular biology, with proven hands-on experience at the bench and with animal models including mice and sheep. Experience with Prism, Flowjo, and Snapgene a plus. In addition to leading independent research projects, the Senior Scientist will be responsible for training and mentoring postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and other trainees, fostering a collaborative and educational lab environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate scientific rigor, strong communication skills, and a commitment to advancing translational gene-editing research.

What you will do

  • Conducts research of significant scientific value in the basic and/or translational science area(s)
  • In collaboration with the PI functions independently in the development and execution of research projects
  • Initiates and maintains collaborations with researchers, external agencies and institutions to develop cooperative research initiatives
  • Trains technical staff, students, fellows, physicians in lab procedures and compliance
  • Supervises students or other research staff to ensure correct procedures are followed
  • Provides general supervision over the laboratory or research group
  • Assists in management of resource allocations and day-to-day lab personnel activities
  • Composes high quality publications for peer reviewed, scientific journals
  • Participates in procurement of additional funding through contributions to proposal development
  • Responsible for appropriate use of research funds
  • May participates in educational programs and teaching assignments
  • Develops and/or contributes to proposals in procurement of partial funding support

Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree - Required
  • Doctorate - Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least eleven (11) years of directly relevant scientific experience - Required
  • At least six (6) years of directly relevant post-fellowship scientific experience - Preferred

SALARY RANGE:

$98,820.00 - $126,000.00 Annually

Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
