Evonik’s Healthcare division specializes in developing polymers for oral solid formulations, including solid tablets. This Senior Scientist role focuses on analytical method development and product innovation to support pharmaceutical applications. The ideal candidate will have expertise in HPLC, Karl Fischer, GC, MS, NMR, and other analytical techniques, along with experience in solid oral formulations and regulatory requirements (GLP, GMP, FDA, EMA).
This position involves designing and executing analytical tests, collaborating with cross-functional teams, troubleshooting analytical methods, and ensuring high-quality product development. The Senior Scientist will also manage laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, vendor coordination, and inventory management. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a collaborative research environment are essential.
Salary Range: $88,500 - $147,400 per year (salary to be determined by geographic location, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data).
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Method Development & Testing: Develop and optimize analytical methods for the characterization and quantification of drug substances and drug products, primarily for oral solids but not limited to this. Methods include assays, impurity analysis, content uniformity, dissolution, and Karl Fischer testing.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Independently analyze data and prepare reports to support decision-making. Troubleshoot and optimize analytical methods to ensure accuracy, reliability, and efficiency.
- Collaboration: Work with formulators and cross-functional teams to choose the right analytical methods and provide support for decision-making.
- Laboratory Operations & Maintenance: Manage inventory, procure laboratory supplies, and ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and repair of analytical instruments. Participate in instrument software validation as necessary. Coordinate preventive maintenance and calibrations with vendors.
- Documentation & Compliance: Ensure thorough documentation of analytical processes, equipment maintenance, and compliance with GLP, GMP, and regulatory standards (FDA, EMA).
- Multi-Project Management: Work on multiple projects concurrently, exhibiting flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Solid-State Characterization: Conduct solid-state characterization as part of the development of drug products.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all work meets regulatory guidelines and laboratory requirements, adhering to appropriate safety and quality standards.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education & Experience:
- B.A. in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field: 5–10 years of experience.
- M.S.: 1–5 years of experience.
- Ph.D.: 1+ year of experience.
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in HPLC, GC, MS, and NMR techniques.
- Experience with chromatographic techniques (HPLCs, UPLCs, GC), spectroscopy-based methods, and dissolution methods.
- Familiarity with analytical procedures, equipment, and regulatory guidelines (FDA, EMA, GLP, GMP).
- Knowledge of LIMS and data analysis software.
- Problem-Solving & Communication:
- Strong troubleshooting and data interpretation skills.
- Ability to prepare clear reports and communicate findings across teams.
- Strong organizational skills for effective documentation and compliance.
