Position Overview: 

We are looking for a scientist to manage peptide drug discovery projects, perform peptide synthesis (manual and automated), peptide purification, and characterization to support our drug discovery program and IND-enabling studies. Peptides are at the core of Henry Meds drug discovery initiative, and this position will be crucial to our research efforts to develop novel therapies for metabolic diseases. 

The therapeutic group is responsible for the design, synthesis, formulation, and analytical validation of our peptides to enable biological testing and pharmacological analysis of our drug candidates. As a key member of this team, the Sr. Scientist (Peptide Synthesis) will build the operations and processes needed to deliver the high-quality reagents and data that form the foundation of future innovative treatments. Activities include, but are not limited to, peptide design, synthesis, cleavage, purification, and QC. The role involves close interaction with colleagues in the analytical chemistry and biology groups. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of accomplishments in laboratory research, excellent communication and time management skills, and the ability to initiate and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners.

This position is located on-site at our facility in Charlottesville, VA. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Synthesis, purification, and characterization of peptides for the Peptide Chemistry group
  • Support general lab functions and perform regular equipment maintenance
  • Development and optimization of synthesis, purification, and analytical methods for peptide drugs.
  • Transfer of synthesis, purification, and analytical methods to other labs within Henry Meds and to external organizations
  • Detailed documentation of laboratory work to enable regulatory submissions and intellectual property protection
  • Coordination of work with formulation development and analytical development specialists
  • Management of timelines and deliverables.

 You will likely have:

  • PhD with 5+ years research experience or MS with 8+ years laboratory research experience.
  • Required experience in synthesis, purification, and analysis of synthetic peptides.
  • Required experience in solid-phase peptide synthesis.
  • Strong understanding of peptide drug development and optimization.
  • Small molecule drug discovery expertise.
  • Any experience in metabolic diseases. 

 You may have:

  • Well versed in liquid chromatography, including analytical UPLC and preparative HPLC.
  • Strong skills in bio-organic/organic chemistry, bio-analytical chemistry, and endocrinology.
  • Ability to influence decision making with or without authority, facilitate groups with diverse perspectives, across geographies, and bring teams to agreement.
  • Strong project management skills in a demanding, fast-paced environment and to deliver high-quality results on time.

Salary Range: $160-170K Annually

This salary represents Henry Med's good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation for this role at the time of posting, and Henry Meds may ultimately pay more or less than the posted salary. The final salary for this position will be determined by Henry Meds sole discretion, consistent with applicable law, and based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the employee’s work experience, skills, and qualifications for the role, as well as the needs of Henry Meds business and other operational considerations.
