Our pioneering proprietary technology helps researchers and clinicians create comprehensive cellular maps enhancing our understanding of various diseases, with our flagship product STARmap and upcoming Pyxa™ suite of products. We have a passionate management team and committed investors who believe in our patented technology and overall mission to profoundly advance biomedical research and accelerate the discovery of life-saving treatments.
Role Description
- We are seeking a hands-on Computational Oncology expert to drive our spatial biology initiatives, bringing deep analytical rigor and biological intuition to complex tumor microenvironment datasets. This individual will serve as the core technical anchor for our oncology programs, bridging raw molecular data and high-resolution biological insight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead computational analysis and biological interpretation of high-dimensional spatial and single-cell oncology datasets.
- Analyze tumor microenvironment biology, including cellular composition, cell states, spatial organization, neighborhood dynamics, immune–tumor interactions, and tumor heterogeneity.
- Develop and apply analytical approaches for cellular segmentation, deconvolution, spatial neighborhood analysis, biomarker discovery, and tissue architecture characterization.
- Translate complex datasets into biologically meaningful hypotheses and actionable insights for oncology research.
- Partner closely with wet-lab scientists on experimental design, sample selection, panel design, controls, assay optimization, validation, and quality assessment.
- Apply strong biological judgment to spatial outputs, recognizing whether observed cellular arrangements and tissue architectures reflect biological reality or potential technical artifacts.
- Develop, optimize, and maintain reproducible computational workflows for high-dimensional spatial datasets.
- Help benchmark and validate new analytical approaches and provide computational insights that inform assay and platform development.
- Collaborate across scientific, computational, engineering, product, and commercial teams to advance Stellaromics’ spatial biology capabilities.
- Engage with external collaborators and commercial partners to understand scientific questions, interpret results, and communicate the value of spatial approaches in oncology.
- Clearly communicate complex scientific findings through presentations, scientific discussions, reports, publications, posters, and/or conference presentations.
- Bring scientific curiosity, ownership, and adaptability to complex problems in a rapidly evolving biotechnology environment.
Qualifications
Essential Qualficaitions:
- PhD in cancer biology, molecular biology, genomics, computational biology, or a related field (or an MS with equivalent industry experience).
- Working fluency in spatial and single-cell computational concepts, specifically segmentation, deconvolution, and neighborhood analysis.
- Direct hands-on experience with major spatial platforms (Xenium, CosMx, GeoMx, MERSCOPE, Visium) or a demonstrated ability to independently stand up complex molecular platforms from scratch.
- Industry experience gained within biotech, pharma, platform vendors, or specialized core facilities.
- Individual contributor role: you prefer hands-on technical execution over managing direct reports or running a facility.
- Strong spatial intuition and an instinctive eye for data validity.
- Exceptional interpersonal and collaborative communication skills.
- The instinctive eye: can look at a spatial dataset and immediately sense whether cells are where they should be.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
- Specific domain expertise in CRC or other gastrointestinal oncology tissue types.
- Combined experience working directly with both major spatial platforms and GI/CRC tissues.
- Proven panel design and validation experience tailored for tumor microenvironment applications.
- Comfort communicating complex technical details across bench, computational, and external/commercial audiences.
- Hands-on wet-lab proficiency with oncology tissues, including tumor dissociation, IHC/IF, and FFPE processing.
