The Senior Technical Lead will serve as the primary technical authority for a federal RPA program, providing day-to-day leadership across development, architecture, delivery, and stakeholder engagement. This role requires demonstrated experience leading UiPath-based automations in a complex federal environment, managing shifting priorities, aligning technical decisions with leadership direction, and ensuring high-quality, production-ready automations across multiple workstreams.
The Technical Lead will work closely with program leadership, including program managers and technical leads to ensure transparent communication, set realistic expectations, and guide the development team through requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and O&M.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
Serve as the primary technical SME for the RPA program, advising on solution architecture, design patterns, reusable components, and enterprise standards.
Lead technical assessments and feasibility evaluations for new automations, enhancements, and integrations.
Oversee and enforce development best practices across UiPath Studio, Orchestrator, Insights, and supporting tools.
Ensure alignment with security, compliance, and SDLC/SAFe processes.
Stakeholder & Leadership Engagement
Act as the technical point of contact for leadership, translating business needs into actionable technical plans.
Support weekly/monthly reviews, demos, and briefings; communicate risks and progress clearly, concisely, and professionally.
Navigate shifting priorities and evolving requirements while maintaining delivery discipline.
Build trust with government counterparts through transparency, predictability, and strong technical judgment.
Team Leadership & Workload Management
Provide day-to-day guidance to developers, BAs, and testers; ensure tasks are clear, achievable, and aligned with client goals.
Manage workload distribution, sprint planning, code reviews, and peer mentoring.
Maintain team velocity by removing blockers, clarifying requirements, and escalating issues appropriately.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance team culture.
Development & Delivery Oversight
Lead hands-on development for high-priority, complex, or sensitive automations as needed.
Oversee integration of RPA solutions with client systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, ServiceNow, Shared Services, internal APIs).
Ensure automations meet quality standards through rigorous testing, code review, and end-to-end validation.
Support Hypercare, production deployments, O&M activities, and defect resolution.
Governance, Compliance & Documentation
Ensure compliance with Enterprise DevOps, Cybersecurity, and SDLC policies.
Oversee creation and maintenance of PDDs, SDDs, SOPs, test plans, and user guides.
Maintain full traceability throughout the automation lifecycle.
Enforce adherence to configuration management and release protocols.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
Identify opportunities for automation reuse, optimization, standardization, and scaling.
Evaluate and recommend capabilities across AI/ML, document understanding, OCR, LLMs, and API-driven automation.
Collaborate with client and contractor leadership to mature the overall RPA program.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of hands-on RPA development experience, with 5+ years in UiPath (Studio, Orchestrator, Insights).
Prior federal experience.
Proven success leading technical teams and interacting directly with senior government leadership.
Experience delivering automations through full SDLC (analysis → deployment → O&M).
Strong understanding of federal security requirements, access controls, and compliance.
Demonstrated ability to manage shifting priorities and complex stakeholder expectations.
Excellent communication, documentation, and executive-facing presentation skills.
Ability to guide developers through technical challenges in real time.
