JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a member of our Finance team, the Senior Reinsurance Financial Analyst is responsible for accounting, reporting, analysis, and administration duties related to the reinsurance contracts held by the business. This includes working with brokers and internal partners to achieve premium and claim settlements, as well as ensuring ceded financials are accurate in the ledger. This team member is a valued subject matter expert within the Finance team, and gives advice on reinsurance questions, and provides valuable reinsurance analytics to drive decision making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze and monitor monthly spending on facultative and treaty reinsurance, and perform variance analysis for management reporting package
- Monitor and maintain inventory of reinsurance contracts
- Oversee collection and reporting of reinsurance collaterals including funds held, trust accounts, and letter of credits
- Review and provide supporting documentation for both OSFI and Schedule F statutory reporting packages, and ensure compliance with company's established reinsurance practices and procedures
- Collaborate with international placement team by providing key data inputs during contract placement and adjustment processes
- Partner with FP&A team during annual planning season to craft reinsurance plan and advise on short term forecasted reinsurance activity
- Prepare month end reinsurance premium and claims journal entries, and make necessary adjustments into reinsurance sub-ledger system
- Reconcile all reinsurance receivable and payable general ledger accounts monthly
- Coordinate and oversee offshore processing team for monthly facultative premium and claim settlements
- Assist in development of new business processes during 2025 implementation of new reinsurance system
- Participate in innovative projects as required including assessing new ventures for the organization
- Collaborate with Accounting and Financial Control teams with audit sample requests
- Respond to ad hoc internal or reinsurer requests
- Acts as a backup to other members of Finance team
May perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of insurance and/or reinsurance contracts in a Finance/Accounting role
- Accounting fundamentals, with IFRS17 specific knowledge being an asset
- Advanced Excel skills are a must, with additional tools like VBA, SQL, PowerBI being an asset
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and capable of managing multiple projects effectively
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills coupled with a strong desire to learn and grow
- Must be results oriented with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills to speak as a subject matter expert
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent
- Completion, or working towards a professional recognized accounting designation
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience required, with P&C specific experience being an asset
